Trip Informations
Wild, tropical and remote – Borneo is South East Asia's answer to the Amazon. This 10-day trip is full of active adventure set in natural paradise. See orangutans swinging through the rainforest treetops at a sanctuary in Semenggoh and venture into the vast Mulu cave systems. Follow the Headhunter’s Trail through dense jungle in Sarawak, wander along Kuching's riverside promenade and relax on golden-sand beaches on Labuan Island. This one’s for nature-lovers, wildlife-spotters and beach-goers!
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Kick back in Kuching and maybe try a bowl of the local laksa – Anthony Bourdain called it 'the breakfast of the Gods' – and explore the neighbourhoods full of Chinese and Malay influences.
verified
See semi-wild orangutans at the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and look for proboscis monkeys in Bako National Park. One of the last truly wild places on earth, Borneo offers rare treats for nature lovers.
verified
Explore labyrinthian cave systems, some of the largest in the world, and watch as millions of bats emerge from their depths at sunset, darkening the sky like a plume of black smoke.
verified
Follow in the footsteps of tribal warriors on a trek through wild, dense jungle on the Headhunter’s Trail – rich with wildlife like hornbills and monkeys.
verified
Gain some unique insights into Berawan people, indigenous to the Mulu region, learning about their life and food through a family visit and home-cooked dinner.
verified
Unwind after days spent trekking through jungle with a stay on tranquil Labuan Island. Relax with a well-earned drink or a good book at your beach resort accommodation.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
When staying in the National Park, accommodation is multishare and can be basic. The unqiue atmosphere and wonderful location more than make up for this though.
verified
This trip includes a number of wonderful long walks through forest and jungle, especially the 12 km Headhunter’s Trail, so a good level of fitness is required.
verified
This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Best of Borneo.

This Sarawak tour was incredible! The two days of exploring Mulu National Park were a highlight, including waterfall walks, animal spotting and venturing into caves. The 2 days of trekking was a real adventure and such a great part of the trip. The Malaysian food was also fantastic! What made the tour stand out most was Nik’s tour leadership. She turned a great trip into something truly special.

A great trip. Yes, its strenuous because of the heat - but so worthwhile, and brilliantly organised. Always felt safe and informed. Just book it!

The wild Sarawak trip gives you a true taste of this wild area. Even if you don't see a lot of wildlife just being in a tropical rain forest is a wonderful experience and our guide Rody made it extra special.

Sarawak was a great adventure! Billy was an excellent guide. He gave us daily updates so we knew what to expect as far as activities and transportation, hotels and nearby sights to see. He has a great knowledge of the local culture, plant and wildlife. Flying into Mulu NP and being that far in the jungle was something else. Especially when it took 3 hours on a long boat to get back to a village where we then got ground transportation to our next destination!! I found it all very fascinating. Looking forward to taking another Intrepid tour!

This is an exciting and varied trip, so lots of variety, and wildlife, jungle trekking, river cruises and city time. The leader Nik was excellent, a good reader of people and able to vary her style to accommodate individuals and keep the group happy.

A fantastic trip and a real adventure. Very well organised and a fantastic itinerary, with a great tour leader and a really good group of fellow guests. We got a real insight into the geography, culture, history and wildlife of Sarawak and Sabah.
