Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Kick back in Kuching and maybe try a bowl of the local laksa – Anthony Boudain called it 'the breakfast of the Gods' – and explore the neighbourhoods full of Chinese and Malay influences.
See semi-wild orangutans at the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and look for proboscis monkeys in Bako National Park. One of the last truly wild places on earth, Borneo offers rare treats for nature lovers.
Explore labyrinthian cave systems, some of the largest in the world, and watch as millions of bats emerge from their depths at sunset, darkening the sky like a plume of black smoke.
Follow in the footsteps of tribal warriors on a trek through wild, dense jungle on the Headhunter’s Trail – rich with wildlife like hornbills and monkeys.
Gain some unique insights into Berawan people, indigenous to the Mulu region, learning about their life and food through a family visit and home-cooked dinner.
Unwind after days spent trekking through jungle with a stay on tranquil Labuan Island. Relax with a well-earned drink or a good book at your beach resort accommodation.
Is this trip right for you?
When staying in the National Park, accommodation is multishare and can be basic. The unqiue atmosphere and wonderful location more than make up for this though.
This trip includes a number of wonderful long walks through forest and jungle, especially the 12 km Headhunter’s Trail, so a good level of fitness is required.
This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Best of Borneo.
Itinerary
Travel into the wild heart of Malaysian Borneo
Wild, tropical and remote – Borneo is South East Asia's answer to the Amazon. This 10-day trip is full of active adventure set in natural paradise. See orangutans swinging through the rainforest treetops at a sanctuary in Semenggoh and venture into the vast Mulu cave systems. Follow the Headhunter’s Trail through dense jungle in Sarawak, wander along Kuching's riverside promenade and relax on golden-sand beaches on Labuan Island. This one’s for nature-lovers, wildlife-spotters and beach-goers!

Absolutely exceptional trip. My first Intrepid trip and it won't be my last. The care from our trip leader Billy was truly outstanding. Nothing was too much. He was eternally patient and helpful. Great craic too! The beauty of Borneo needs to be experienced. It is magical place - I have never met such kind people. Safe, clean and so easy on this organised trip. Seeing the orangutans will stay with me forever. I came away with extensive knowledge on its culture, nature and more. As I read in one of these reviews, if you're thinking about it, just do it!

Nizam is a superstar! A great trip with a wide variety of activities, with a wonderful leader who looked after us so well and took any stress out of what we did - despite a hectic schedule. A good mix of city, jungle, wildlife and a welcome day by the beach. A great adventure!

This was a great trip. Mulu was amazing and the jungle trek was tough but rewarding. It was great to see all the amazing wildlife. Our host Rody was great. Would definitely recommend this tour!

Excellent! Packs a lot in, with a good level of physical exertion and activity. Nizam (our tour leader) was first-class and really created a great dynamic in the group. Very well organised.

I had a great time on the Wild Sarawak trip. Our guide was really knowledgeable. The trek to camp 5 was a highlight. Be prepared that it could rain at any time, but the rain is nice and refreshing. There is a good mix of physically challenging days followed by chilled days to rest.

This is a great trip for those who want to experience the wonders of Borneo. I was apprehensive about managing the hiking in the heat and humidity but it was entirely manageable and the highlight of the trip. Nizam as a guide was excellent, knowledgeable helpful and friendly. Camp 5 is a great experience. Would highly recommend.

Borneo was an unforgettable adventure! From the breathtaking landscapes to the rich wildlife, every moment was filled with discovery. The itinerary was well-planned, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the local culture and explore the stunning natural beauty of the region. Our guide, Nik, was exceptional—her enthusiasm and extensive knowledge made the experience even more enriching. Overall, it was a fantastic journey that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore this incredible part of the world!
