Trip Informations
Get wild on this 11-day adventure through the remote Kimberley Outback. Sparsely populated and ruggedly beautiful, you’ll walk through Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges Conservation Park to Manning Gorge, explore the Tunnel Creek cave system and spend two nights under the stars in your permanent tented camp in Purnululu National Park. Swim in waterfalls and gorges, hike through red-rock formations and palm oases and learn about the rich First Nations history of the area from Traditional Custodians. Whether you’re visiting from overseas or travelling domestically, this journey through the Kimberley showcases some of the best parts of the Aussie Outback.
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore the Tunnel Creek cave system and learn about Jandamarra, a First Nations freedom fighter who used the caves to evade police in the late 1800s.
Take a guided walk through Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges Conservation Park to Manning Gorge, where you can swim beneath a waterfall and view ancient Indigenous rock art.
Spend two nights under the stars in your private permanent tented camp in Purnululu National Park, with stunning views of the Bungle Bungles.
Walk through Cathedral Gorge and experience the natural amphitheatre of red rock, carved out over millions of years to create this incredible acoustic wonder.
Visit Lake Argyle, one of the largest man-made lakes in the southern hemisphere. Learn how the lake transformed this once-dry region into an agricultural oasis and take a dip in the infinity pool at Lake Argyle camp.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves plenty of walking over varied terrain and is best suited to travellers with a good level of mobility. A reasonable level of fitness and being sure on your feet is necessary to participate. Good footwear (hiking boots with ankle support and closed toe water shoes), clothing for all types of weather (sun protection and warm layers for the evening), plus perhaps walking poles are recommended for extra stability on uneven rocky terrain. Details on physical activities can be found in the daily itinerary.
This is a camping trip. Simple facilities and lack of emphasis on creature comforts make this an authentic experience of the Australian outback. A Single Supplement is not available on the default version of this trip. As a single traveller you will have a tent to yourself on camping nights, however in the permanent tented camps you will be paired up with another single traveller of the same gender. An accommodation upgrade (Camping Plus) for nights 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 is available upon request and subject to availability at an additional cost. Camping Plus can also be booked with the option of a single supplement. Please see the accommodation section of your trip notes or speak to your travel agent for more details.
Please note that you must bring your own sleeping bag, suitable to the conditions. Please familiarise yourself with the weather conditions that are to be expected at the time of your trip. You can also hire a sleeping bag from us at an additional cost. This must be requested with your booking agent no later than 14 days prior to departure.
On some days of the trip, you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you would miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. There will be some very early mornings.
It is very important that you advise us of any dietary requirements and allergies at least 2 weeks prior to departure. We need this information well ahead of time to be able organise catering for the trip. This trip’s remote location means that some food items will not be available on short notice, and once the trip has commenced changes to dietary requirements are not possible. Please also advise us of any medical conditions at the time of booking and bring along any personal medication. Please note that if you require urgent medical attention during the trip, it may take several hours or more for emergency services to attend the scene and take you to a medical facility.

WEATHER
Departures are all subject to regional weather conditions and road closures – usually only a concern in Apr & Oct / Nov.
LUGGAGE
Space in our vehicles is limited so please keep luggage light – bring only essentials in a small soft bag, MAXIMUM 15kg. Suitcases are NOT suitable. Excess luggage must be left in Broome or sent to a forward destination.
PARTICIPATORY CAMPING
It is important that travellers participate in setting up camp each night, though the leader can assist where necessary. The leader also appreciates the assistance or one or two group members in preparing/clearing meals. It is essential that all our groups leave the camp they stay in as they found them for the next travellers - the Kimberley is a pristine wilderness and it is our responsibility to ensure it stays this way.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
It is very important that you advise us of any dietary requirements and allergies at least 2 weeks prior to departure. We need this information well ahead of time to be able organise catering for the trip. Broome's remote location means that some food items will not be available on short notice, and once the trip has commenced changes to dietary requirements are not possible.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
As we operate in remote areas, you will need to bring all of your own personal medications with you. While our leaders are qualified in remote area or wilderness first aid and carry satellite phones, we do not carry any emergency medications. If a person requires urgent medical attention during the trip, it may take several hours or more for emergency services to attend the scene and take you to a medical facility. If you have any pre-existing medical issues that will affect your ability to complete the trip or may have an impact on other guests’ experiences and you do not disclose these prior to the departure, we reserve the right to remove you from the trip.

The Wild Kimberley Overland introduced me to a part of Australia I knew little about. The magic natural landscapes and the fun of exploring it with Intrepid will stay with me for years to come.

This was a magnificent trip in the outback which exceeded my expectations. Almost daily swimming in gorges under beautiful waterfalls, amazing meals, camp fires, great permanent tent set ups, exciting four wheel driving and fantastic fellow travellers. Tex and Nell were truly wonderful and skilled tour leaders who shared their passion and knowledge of the area and were so hard working - count yourself lucky if you have them on your trip!

I have just completed the Wild Kimberley Tour with leaders, Georgia and Judy. They were exceptional. Nothing can describe the beauty and wonder of the great expanse of the Kimberley. This is an active, interactive, all in participation trip that is an amazing experience. I’m not a camper but the accommodation was very comfortable and the few nights we put up our own tents it was very easy. I did pay for and very much appreciate the upgrade accommodation offer though.

We just finished the Kimberley Wild Overland 11 day trip. What an amazing experience. Passionate guides, amazing images and experiences everyday. It is a hands on camping trip with all of us helping to prepare meals and clean. The vast majority of nights in fixed good sized tents. As long as you get that, you will have a truly memorable trip. Thank you Alice, Caiyuda and Georgia for all of the energy you put in. Cheers. John
