We recommend packing light and smart for this trip as you'll be required to carry your own luggage at times, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs and across cobblestones.
verified
Summer temperatures can be extreme in many of the regions visited (over 40C), which can be uncomfortable. It's important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.

This trip includes time spent travelling in a private vehicle with your group. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. It's all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. There are a few long days of travel, as you'll be covering a lot of ground. You will, however, make stops at interesting locations to break up the longer drives. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.

Oh! What a Trip. Fabulous to get to some out of the way places and see things and experience different cultures. Our small group of 10 was just right with a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and good fun guide.

This Western Balkans trip was absolutely brilliant - especially for travellers who are curious about what is beyond the usual tourist spots. Most places felt like they were still to be discovered by western european tourists, so there was a real sense of adventure. Our leader Vojin's in-depth knowledge of the local history & politics was amazing, and it added so much to the experience. A great variety of bustling cities, historic towns, the scenic lakeside and coast. Accommodation was always very central - right on the doorstep of the sights. I haven't laughed & had as much fun - or learnt so much - on a trip in a while.

Intrepid had always been my go to when I opt for a small group tour.
This Balkan adventure had been one of the best truly.
Everyone in the group were amazing human beings, very inclusive, I was in great company! We had Two tour leaders and they were both amazing.
The balkans as a destination is truly underrated, it's a European gem. From the great cuisine, beautiful places to explore and the people are very welcoming.

Western Balkans Uncovered was incredible. I was fortunate to have an amazing tour Leader in Vladimir and a wonderful group to share this experience with. The places we saw were a super mix of city and natural beauty. The history is complicated but I feel I now have a better understanding of the area thanks to Vladamir and the amazing locals we met along the way that welcomed us with a smile.
While some places had plenty of western tourists many had just locals which added to the fantastic experience.
