Welcome to Broome! Or Rubibi, in the language of the Yawuru people, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Broome is now located. Get an early start on your adventure this morning as you travel through the remote Kimberley landscape. After crossing the Fitzroy River, visit the 1500-year-old Boab Prison Tree in Derby. Then, wander around an art gallery before continuing along the Gibb River Road to Windjana Gorge, found within the Napier Range. Over 350 million years old, this natural landscape boasts towering gorge walls, freshwater crocodiles and plenty of local birdlife. Tonight, settle into camp near Windjana Gorge and watch as the stars come alive, away from the city lights. Make sure you’re on time this morning, as your trip will kick off straight away. See the ‘Joining Point Instructions’ in the Essential Trip Information for more information on where you’ll meet your leader this morning. Your travel time today will be approximately 5 hours. The Windjana Gorge Trail is a Grade 2 (easy) 2km return walk, taking around 1 hour. The trail has a rough surface that may have some moderate hills. Please note that you won’t have a chance to purchase alcohol between Broome and Kununurra (albeit El Questro has a bar). If you’d like to bring alcoholic drinks to have around the campfire, please make sure you buy them the day before in Broome. Please only bring cans, as glass bottles will break due to the corrugation on the Gibb River Road. The campsite tonight requires you to set up your own dome tent (provided). Facilities are basic.

The morning, after the campsite is packed up, is devoted to exploring Tunnel Creek. Spend time exploring the 750-m cave system, learning about the legend of Jandamarra, searching for stalactites and looking out for the cave’s resident freshwater crocodiles. In the afternoon, depart for Bell Gorge (Dalmanyi), a largely unknown highlight of the West Kimberleys, which boasts waterfalls and clear-water pools formed millions of years ago. Hike to the falls and enjoy a few hours of rest and relaxation by the water before setting off to tonight’s campsite at Silent Grove. Your travel time today will be approximately 4 hours. The Tunnel Creek Trail is a Grade 5 (difficult) 2km return walk, taking around 1 hour. There are loose rocks and uneven surfaces, with some sections requiring rock hopping, wading through waist deep water on submerged rocks, and a short swim in complete darkness. Some sections require three points of contact at all times. Please make sure that you have your swimwear, towel, your head torch and your closed-toe wet shoes in your day pack when leaving Broome this morning, as your main luggage will be stowed away in the back of the vehicle. The Bell Gorge Trail is a Grade 4 (challenging) walk with an initial steep downhill section with loose, uneven surfaces. After crossing a small creek, continue along the rocky dry creek bed and up to the top of Dalmanyi Falls. The Falls Trail is Grade 5 (difficult) and an optional extension of the Bell Gorge Trail, requiring crossing the creek above the falls on slippery rocks submerged in fast-flowing water. The descent to the pool below requires three points of contact at all times. The campsite tonight requires you to set up your own dome tent (provided). Facilities are basic.

Today’s adventure starts with a drive to Galvans Gorge. After a short walk to the pool, dive into the cool waters, sit underneath the falls for a natural back massage and lounge on the rock ledges. Then, explore the rock walls beside the main pool, where you’ll find Wandjina rock art. Later, arrive at Mt Barnett Station campground, where you’ll stay for the next two nights. Your travel time today will be approximately 2.5 hours. Your walking time will be approximately 1 hour or 1.5 km. The Galvans Gorge Trail is a Grade 3 (moderate) 1km return walk, taking around 1 hour without time for a swim. There are some short steep hills, a rough surface, and it involves some rock hopping. The campsite at Mt Barnett requires you to set up your own dome tent (provided). Nearby shared facilities have showers and flush toilets.

It’s an early start today to make the most of the walking trail to Manning Gorge and Falls. There’s plenty of time for swimming, relaxing and soaking up the sights and sounds of the Kimberleys. Return for lunch back at camp, then enjoy an afternoon of free time. You might like to find a nice spot to read and relax or enjoy the nearby creek for another swim before another camp dinner. Your walking time today will be approximately 3 hours or 5.6 km. The Manning Falls Trail is a Grade 4 (challenging) 5.6km 3-hour walk that starts with a swim across the Manning River (approx 50m). The trail has a rough and rocky surface, sections with very steep hills, and involves some rock hopping. The trail gets progressively harder towards the end. Please note that the trail is exposed and there is very little shade.

Say goodbye to the West Kimberley gorges as you journey through the centre of the Kimberleys to El Questro Wilderness Park. Prepare for a long day of driving over 350km through the rough terrain of the Kimberleys via the Gibb River Road. It’s a bit of a travel day, so have your favourite book, podcast or music on hand. Or, simply sit back and enjoy the vast remote stretches of the Outback. Today’s drive will be broken up with plenty of stops to stretch your legs, get lunch and see local sights like the Pentecost River Lookout. After a river crossing or two, arrive at tonight’s accommodation where you have the option to have dinner at the El Questro restaurant and a drink at the Swinging Arm Bar. Your travel time today will be approximately 6 to 7 hours. Tonight’s dinner is not included and is at your own expense. The bar at El Questro Station has a cantina style menu with burgers and pizza. Please note that depending on the timing of the day, the non-included meal may take place tomorrow instead. Your leader will advise. Our camp on the grounds of El Questro features dome tents that have been set up for you and our own sheltered kitchen area. Nearby shared facilities have hot showers and flush toilets.

Over the next few days, you’ll explore the many gorges and hikes of the El Questro Station. Start off the day with a soak at the Zebedee Thermal Springs, surrounded by an ancient forest of palm trees and gentle waterfalls. El Questro Station opens the pools early exclusively for our groups, before opening to general public. The next destination, the El Questro Gorge, offers a short and a long walk. The short walk takes you through the Livistona palms rainforest, across the creek to the halfway pool, where you’ll be able to swim. From here, the longer trail begins, becoming more challenging but well worth the effort as you reach the cool Mac Micking pool and falls for a swim. Time permitting and depending on the season and water levels in the gorge, head to the Amalia Gorge Trail, where you’ll rock scramble across sandstone slabs and creek beds to reach the pools. Bring your swimsuit to enjoy a well-earned dip in the water, then continue your hike and return to camp. Your walking time today will be approximately 6 to 8.5 hours or 12 km. The Zebedee Springs Trail is a Grade 2 (easy) 600m return walk, taking around 30 minutes, without the time for a swim. The trail is mostly flat with some elevated sections. The El Questro Gorge Walk has two sections. The first section is Class 4 and is 3.2km long, halfway it becomes a Class 5 walk taking you to the full 7.2km hike. It is challenging terrain with the last part requiring climbing boulders. It will take 3-5 hours to complete. Amalia Gorge is a 3.4km return hike that takes 2-3 hours. There are a few rocky sections but it is a beautiful walk with 2 great swimming spots along the way. Please note that this walk may only be possible if time and water levels in the gorge allow.

This morning, set off for another scenic hike in the El Questro Park. Emma Gorge involves a bit of careful rock hopping through the bush with the payoff being a droplet waterfall and watering hole, surrounded by greenery-lined rock walls. After, you have several ways to spend your last afternoon at El Questro. Choose to either relax at the resort, enjoy time exploring the park or take up one of the optional activities, including a cruise at Chamberlain Gorge, a bush tucker walk or a birdwatching tour. Your walking time today will be approximately 2 hours or 3.2 km. The Emma Gorge Trail is a Grade 4 (challenging) 3.2km return walk, taking around 2 hours. The trail is mostly flat with some steep sections, loose and slippery rocks, and involves some rock hopping, especially towards the end. Don't forget your swimmers as this is a fantastic spot to cool off. The afternoon is free for you to choose your own activities. We recommend that you pre-book the Chamberlain Gorge Cruise as this activity can sell out far in advance. Please book directly with El Questro via their website. Choose the afternoon time slot with transfer.

Today you’ll pack up and head to the town of Kununurra, with a stop at the Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve to see hundreds of waterbirds, including herons, spoonbills and magpie geese. This afternoon, you’ll have time to get some washing done or relax with a book while your crew buy plenty of fresh food for the next section of the trip. Tonight, you’re free to enjoy a drink at the pub or drop into a local restaurant for dinner. Your travel time today will be approximately 2.5 hours. Tonight’s and tomorrow night’s dinners are not included and are at your own expense. Kununurra has plenty of options for you to choose.

Known as the ‘Mini Bungles’, Mirima National Park is your first stop today with plenty of time to stop and appreciate the colourful layered rock formations created more than 300 million years ago. Lunch is at your own expense today and this afternoon there is the option to join a river cruise down the Ord River to the Dam Wall. There are 4 walks that you can complete in the park, ranging from 500 m up to 3.5 km. You can even walk back to your accommodation in town if you so wish. This afternoon, you have the option to join a cruise on the Ord River. Cruises can sell out far in advance, so we recommend you book this activity with the supplier directly on their website in advance. The recommended operator's name is Triple J, and the recommended cruise is the 'Ord River Discoverer with Sunset', trip code J3. During the booking process, please advise the operator of your pick-up location at Kununurra Country Club Resort.

Hit the road for Purnululu National Park – one of three natural UNESCO World Heritage sites in Western Australia – and get set for a drive along outback tracks with creek crossings, washaways and rough, slow sections. After setting up camp, there’s time for a stroll before your leader takes you to the perfect spot to watch the sunset against the red rocks of the Bungle Bungles Range. Grab a drink and enjoy one of the state’s most famous sights as the rocks change colour. Your travel time today will be approximately 6 hours. The dirt track from Spring Creek into the Bungle Bungles is only 50 km but will take approximately 2 hours. This is a very windy and corrugated road that can sometimes take even longer to drive. The campsite for the next two nights requires you to set up your own dome tent (provided). Facilities at the campsite are basic.

This morning, you could take an optional helicopter flight for a bird's-eye view over the beehive domes. Later, you’ll explore Echidna Chasm, known for its towering Livistona palm trees. Set off on the Echidna Chasm Walk, following the steep-sided gorge walls with shades of oranges and reds that glow when the sun hits them. Next up is the Mini Palms Gorge walk. After, you’ll spend the night at camp and rest those weary legs. Your walking time today will be approximately 3 hours or 6.4 km. The Echidna Chasm Walk is a Grade 4 (challenging) walk, approx 2 km return taking under an hour. It has steep-sided gorge walls up to 200 metres high and barely a metre wide in places. The trail has a natural surface of rock, and some sections require some moderate climbing. The Mini Palms Gorge walk is a Grade 5 (difficult), 4.4km trail that takes approximately 2-3 hours. It’s a return trail that follows a stony creek bed with steep slopes, narrow edges and large boulders to climb over. Today, you have the option to see the domes from the air by taking an optional helicopter flight. We hold allotments with the operator, and your leader will offer you to book the flights on your behalf. This way the leader can coordinate the timing with the day’s other activities in mind.

This morning, you'll be welcomed to Country by a local Aboriginal guide. Then, head off on a walk through the domes as you learn about bush tucker and bush medicine. Continuing into Cathedral Gorge, your guide will tell tales of how Countrymen would walk the country you’re walking. As you enter the gorge, your guide will share the space with you in their cultural way, whether that be through drawing, singing or storytelling. Then, it’s time to pack up and drive to Larrawa Station for the last night of your Kimberleys adventure. Tonight, join your group and celebrate the trip with a drink and dinner at Larrawa Station campground. Your travel time today will be approximately 5 hours. Your walking distance will be approximately 2 km. Cathedral Gorge is a Grade 4 (challenging) 2 km return walk on an unmodified and rocky trail. Your camp on the grounds of Larrawa Station features tents that have been set up for you. Facilities are basic.

Break camp after breakfast and drive to Fitzroy Crossing. Take a walk down to the banks of the Fitzroy River before continuing the drive to Broome, where your trip will come to an end upon arrival at approximately 5:30pm. It’s recommended that you book another night in Broome before flying out, as delays may occur. Once in Broome, your leader will drop you at your nominated accommodation or back at the default starting location. Your travel time today will be approximately 6 hours. Your trip ends when you arrive back in Broome late this afternoon at around 5:30pm.
