Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Stay in a local’s home in the Mekong Delta – the ‘rice bowl of Vietnam’ – and visit local villages, learning about the way of life here.
Wander the coloured buildings, heritage-listed streets and bustling markets of Hoi An, then spend a day chilling out at the local palm-fringed beach.
Spend a night aboard a traditional junk boat on the waters of UNESCO World Heritage sits Ha Long Bay. Sleep under the stars after a delicious dinner, then in the morning, maybe opt to go kayaking for a different perspective of the limestone peaks.
Take a cyclo tour of Hue for the best introduction to this central Vietnam city and explore the ancient temples dotted around with a knowledgeable local leader by your side.
Dine at KOTO in Hanoi, where you and your family will not only feast on delicious northern specialties but also support an excellent cause that helps connect street kids with careers in hospitality.
Is this trip right for you?
You and your family will visit a number of temples on this trip, and it's important to respect the local custom. Arms and knees should be covered. A light scarf is a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
There will be shared facilities at your Mekong Delta homestay (Day 11), however, the lack of creature comforts will be a small price to pay for such an authentic local experience.
Your overnight train journey from Hanoi to Hue (Day 4) is quite long. The upside is you'll wake up in a thrilling new destination and experience travelling like a local. While bedding is supplied some families opt to bring their own sleep sheets. Ticketing fees may apply for amendments to details within 45 days of departure, and in some cases you will be required to cover the cost of issuing a new ticket.
5. There are two single supplement options on this trip. The hotel single supplement will cover all nights excluding Day 3 - Overnight boat, Day 4 - Sleeper train and Day 11 - homestay. A second single supplement option is available for the overnight sleeper train (Day 4) only if you would prefer not to share a compartment with other people (a compartment fits 4 people). Both single supplements are available on request and are subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.

8. Tet is Vietnam's New Year festival, held annually in late January or early February based on the lunar calendar. While this can be a fascinating time to travel and experience this event, expect some shop closures and busier than usual local transport. Opening hours at some tourist sites may also be affected or closed. Although we make all reasonable efforts to avoid disruption, a flexible approach from the traveler is appreciated.
9. During the rainy months (approx. June to October), our mode of transport can be changed at short notice due to weather conditions.

Our family trip to Vietnam exceeded all of our expectations. It was a perfect blend of culture, activities, history and FOOD! Our trip leader Win was incredible. We felt completely relaxed with our 3 young kids knowing that Win was taking care of all of the details in the background. It was an absolutely amazing getaway I would recommend to everyone!

This trip was an amazing experience. Our kids (both age 9) absolutely loved it and got expanded by it. I feel that we really saw the country, and had a good variety of activities, food, and accommodation. The entire Halong Bay boat experience was perfect. Our guide, Cong, was very organized and helpful. We would do a family tour again.

We used intrepid so we didn't need to organise booking accommodation or activities. However, our tour guide and Intrepid offered an experience far greater than I could have ever imagined for our family!

Our family adventure in Vietnam with Intrepid was an amazing experience from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh to the rural areas of the Mekong delta we enjoyed every moment and learnt so much about Vietnam, its people and its culture. Our Intrepid guide ensured everything went smoothly, seamlessly guiding us through boat, plane and train transfers. Our guide also ensured our kids were full engaged and learning along the way giving us an incredible family experience we will always remember.
