Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Track rhinos on foot in Matobo National Park, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna including warthogs, leopards, and klipsingers. Learn about the park's cultural significance and San rock paintings.
Spot elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, wildebeest, impalas and more on not one but two included 4WD safari game drives in Tanzania and Zambia.
Visit the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust to learn about the rehabilitation of wildlife from poaching and get the chance to meet some rescued or orphaned wildlife currently in their care.
Discover the magic of South Luangwa National Park on a morning and afternoon 4x4 safari game drive with local expert guides, and visit a workshop where local women transform poaching snare wire into jewellery to raise funds for conservation.
The east of Africa isn’t all just roaming wildlife and open plains. Along the way, get to know some of the region's vibrant cities, including Lusaka, Harare and Bulawayo.
Journey from the interior plains out to some idyllic Indian Ocean hotspots. Stroll along the shores in Dar es Salaam and consider extending your stay in paradisiacal Zanzibar.
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent (unless you’re on an Original or Comfort style trip), occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of the ‘big five’. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: https://www.tuuur.com/au/africa/overland https://www.tuuur.com/au/africa/overland (https://www.tuuur.com/au/africa/overland)
There are many excellent optional activities on this trip. We recommend taking this into consideration when budgeting for your adventure.
As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
Please note that some passengers on this trip will have been travelling together prior to the start of your trip. To see what you're missing out on check out our Cape Town to Zanzibar trip – search trip code UXOBC on the Tuuur website for more information and how to book.

The guides Steve, Henry and big Steve made this trip absolutely awesome! The downside to this itinerary were definitely the very long drives (up to 15 hours). It would be awesome to do the same route with a few more days to actually be able to enjoy the beautiful places you drive through and get out of the truck to explore!

when you return to a continent you loved over thirty years before and you remember it clearly, so you come back and find it is even more wonderful, the trip staff are so kind and informative, so good at managing us all, and it is all excellent value for money. I loved every second of it and it will all go in my travelling memoir out in 2025

This leg has some very long travel days but it’s absolutely still worthwhile. Driving through remote villages and changing landscapes is an amazing experience in itself, and the bus was very comfy! Great itinerary and the crew really make sure the trip is as good as possible.

Could not have been more blown away by this trip. Ray, Ibrahim and John were a crew that put the cherry on top. Please be mindful that this is very much a camping trip with some long days to get to the destinations. But if you didn’t do it this way - then you’re missing out on experiences you could only dream about. Loved this trip so much, I’m looking into booking the next leg!
