Why you’ll love this trip
Glide through the lily pad-filled waterways of the Okavango Delta on a mokoro (a small dugout canoe) and escape civilisation with an overnight stay at your island camp.
Be mesmerised by the staggering force and beauty of Victoria Falls, and experience firsthand why it’s known as the ‘smoke that thunders’ – a natural wonder that must be seen to be believed.
Choose to take an optional cruise down the Chobe River for the opportunity to get up close (but not too personal) to cheetahs, crocodiles and the African elephant.
Listen to the songs and stories of Namibia’s San people, the oldest inhabitants of southern Africa, and gain an insight into their traditional customs and beliefs.
Enjoy a full-day game drive in Etosha National Park, home to a wide range of southern Africa's wildlife, including the endangered black rhino.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Tuuur Foundation partner, Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust. Donations help employ a team of Community Guardians who collaborate with locals to find sustainable solutions to human-wildlife conflict and conservation in Southern Africa.
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent (unless you’re on an Original or Comfort style trip), occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of the Big Five. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: https://www.tuuur.com/africa/overland https://www.tuuur.com/africa/overland (https://www.tuuur.com/africa/overland)
As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make better use of the safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
Itinerary
Explore the contrasting lands of southern Africa
Experience the extremes of southern Africa’s landscapes on this trip that travels from the thunderous Victoria Falls to cosmopolitan Cape Town, travel down lush waterways in the enigmatic Okavango Delta, cruise past elephants and birds on the Chobe River, climb giant sand dunes in Namibia, camp to the sounds of Africa's wildlife and spot big cats, rhinos, zebras and antelopes on Etosha National Park's arid plains. Visit the people who make their homes here, from mokoro polers on the delta to the San people of Namibia.

Even though it was the start of the wet season this trip delivered what it promised. The wildlife encounters were awesome, campsites well above expectations and overland travel pretty comfy. Be prepared for early starts and long travel times but also lots of downtime.

A fabulous trip with safaris, landscapes, history and culture. The campsites were great especially for a non camper. Do it!

From start to finish this trip exceeded all of my expectations. We saw some of the most beautiful landscapes, all of the big five as well as lots more. The planning of this trip was well thought out and all of the team made the boarder crossings a breeze. All of the camping facilities had great amenities and the campsites were all clean and spacious. Didn’t need to upgrade once. The team made us all feel like a family, especially spending Christmas and new years together. Over all this trip was absolutely incredible, I will be recommending Intrepid and this trip in the future.

Utterly mind blowing. Incredible team (and group dynamic) and we had some amazing luck (and Team Leader Dan's astoundingly eagle-eyed spotting) to see a truly remarkable number of animals. Even the long driving days were so full of breathtaking landscapes and added info that the time flew by. Dan, chef OT and driver Ken deserve a medal each (and a pay rise!). Our absolute A-Team ❤️

THIS TRIP IS AMAZING! Book it – you won’t regret it. Its hard to pinpoint my favorite thing – rafting the Zambezi, spotting the Big 5 on the game drives and watching the wildlife at the Etosha watering holes, sleeping under the stars in Spitzkoppe, kayaking with the seals in Swakopmund – and so many more highlights. Some of the drives are long but the changing scenery and places you get to experience are truly remarkable. Huge THANK YOU to Benson, Henry, and Patrick who ensured everything ran smoothly, fed me better than I eat at home, and safely took us to so many places I would have never experienced otherwise. I left wishing I would have booked a longer trip but this unforgettable journey has given me so many happy memories to keep my heart happy for years to come.

This trip was an incredible way to see the highlights of Central and Southern Africa. I’d recommend this direction over the reverse because of the pacing, and the long travel days are behind you by the time you’re heading into Cape Town. The crew: Laban, Sam and Ibrahim were absolutely fantastic to be on tour with and shared openly about their culture with us, which was a real privilege. Namibia was always on my radar but wow, what a hidden gem - I will remember moments from this trip forever.
