Trip Informations
Experience the extremes of southern Africa’s landscapes on this trip that travels from the thunderous Victoria Falls to cosmopolitan Cape Town, travel down lush waterways in the enigmatic Okavango Delta, cruise past elephants and birds on the Chobe River, climb giant sand dunes in Namibia, camp to the sounds of Africa's wildlife and spot big cats, rhinos, zebras and antelopes on Etosha National Park's arid plains. Visit the people who make their homes here, from mokoro polers on the delta to the San people of Namibia.
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Glide through the lily pad-filled waterways of the Okavango Delta on a mokoro (a small dugout canoe) and escape civilisation with an overnight stay at your island camp.
verified
Be mesmerised by the staggering force and beauty of Victoria Falls, and experience firsthand why it’s known as the ‘smoke that thunders’ – a natural wonder that must be seen to be believed.
verified
Choose to take an optional cruise down the Chobe River for the opportunity to get up close (but not too personal) to cheetahs, crocodiles and the African elephant.
verified
Listen to the songs and stories of Namibia’s San people, the oldest inhabitants of southern Africa, and gain an insight into their traditional customs and beliefs.
verified
Enjoy a full-day game drive in Etosha National Park, home to a wide range of southern Africa's wildlife, including the endangered black rhino.

Is this trip right for you?

This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent (unless you’re on an Original or Comfort style trip), occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of the Big Five. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page:

As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make better use of the safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.

This trip was an incredible way to see the highlights of Central and Southern Africa. I’d recommend this direction over the reverse because of the pacing, and the long travel days are behind you by the time you’re heading into Cape Town. The crew: Laban, Sam and Ibrahim were absolutely fantastic to be on tour with and shared openly about their culture with us, which was a real privilege. Namibia was always on my radar but wow, what a hidden gem - I will remember moments from this trip forever.

Thank you so much Zack, Ken and Kim for this incredible adventure that will be engraved in our hearts forever! We experienced so many great highlights every day: breathtaking wildlife, beautiful nature, spectacular landscapes, fantastic activities and Kens great food. The camping in the tents and the bush camping offered us the ultimate Africa experience/adventure. We loved enjoying dinner with the group in the evening, having great conversations and watching the incredible nightsky by the fire. Our great group and the Intrepid team contributed a lot to this unforgettable trip!
The following should be improved by Intrepid: the travel itinerary should be brought up to date regarding wifi (we had wifi at almost all campsites). Add on activities should be able to be booked and paid for before the trip to ensure that any desired activity is not fully booked on arrival (this was the case with the two evening game drives in Etosha National Park. With luck, there were still a few free places on day 1. On the 2nd day, however, everything was fully booked and we couldn't do it. According to Etosha National Park, activities can be booked together with the campsite booking).
We would 100% recommend this trip to whoever wants a trip of a lifetime. We already miss our intrepid family and one of the most beautiful corners on this planet. See you soon Africa!

Great trip from Victoria Falls to Cape Town. Crew
we're so helpful. Ken the Cook spoiled us with his culinary expertise. Driving was excellent. Zac the guide was the best. Itinerary was very well planned - we saw so many animals. Scenery was so different from my home country. As an older couple we enjoyed the camping with an occasional upgrade.

A wonderful trip, filled with inspiring wildlife and cultural experiences. I travelled with my partner (49) and two kids (19 and 17). Our crew of MJ, Asaph and Rasta were highly capable, knowledgeable, fun and caring. This was our first time doing group travel, and we will definitely travel with Intrepid again.
