Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
The much-photographed Registan in Samarkand is one of the true pinnacles of Islamic architecture. You'll be wowed by the scale, grandeur and beauty of the monuments to iconic figures such as Tamerlane and the Persia-influenced madressas, mosques and mausoleums.
Central Asia is a fascinating and unique mix of ancient Silk Road culture, Soviet influence and striving to redefine nations post independence. Geographically and for a time historically, it is the real centre of Asia.
Spend an evening in the isolated Kyzylkum Desert, warming yourself by the fire and sleeping in a yurt.
Get to really know the stories and people of Uzbekistan while sharing home-cooked meals with local families, including a home stay in the remote Nuratau Mountains.
Spend time in World Heritage-listed Bukhara, a 6th-century-BC city that's drenched in history and home to the formidable Ark of Bukhara.
Is this trip right for you?
Still have some hesitation about going to Uzbekistan? Here are four reasons why you should visit: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/why-visit-uzbekistan-now/ https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/why-visit-uzbekistan-now/ (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/why-visit-uzbekistan-now/)
Central Asia is a remote destination, perfect for intrepid travellers in the true sense of the word! You will venture well away from cities, right off the beaten track and be able to immerse yourself in local food, life and culture.
Accommodation may on occasion be more basic than what you are used to in homestays, guesthouses and yurt stay. Shower and toilet facilities will be limited in some places and non existent in others. While the comfort level won't always be high, the rewards of living in true local style in this far-out part of the world are immeasurable.
As the trip only has limited time in Tashkent, we highly recommend staying a few extra days before or after your tour to enjoy all this great city has to offer
Itinerary
Tread the well-worn, yet rarely visited path of the Silk Road through Uzbekistan's ancient cities and desert landscapes.
Take an adventure through Uzbekistan, a country famous for its ancient Silk Road cities overflowing with mosques, mausoleums and mystery. Beginning and ending in Tashkent, the nation's capital, this trip will have you following in the footsteps of traders, pilgrims, Alexander the Great and Tamerlane himself. Walk in the shadows of ancient, blue-tiled buildings, sleep in a yurt under thousands of desert stars and spend an evening at a home stay with a family in the Nuratau Mountains.

Trip was a fantastic way to see different parts of Uzbekistan in a short period of time. The accommodation and transport was excellent and our guide Zafar was knowledgeable and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I'd recommend the trip to anyone who wants to visit one of the Stans and view amazing unesco sites.

This was a fantastic trip and a great introduction to Central Asia. Our tour guide, Zafar, is the best guide I've ever had. Not only was he extremely friendly, smart, and funny but he also made managing a diverse and demanding group look easy. Bhukara and the homestay we're highlights and I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone.

An amazing overview of the Silk Road — both its rich past and vibrant present. The cities we visited were truly unforgettable, with stunning architecture, deep-rooted culture, and of course, the incredible food that added so much to the experience. Our group was a wonderful mix of individuals, and sharing travel stories, laughter, and moments together made the journey even more special. And then there was our tour guide — always making us laugh, full of knowledge and enthusiasm. He brought the places to life and gave us the feeling of being connected to the local way of living. It was a truly special experience from beginning to end.

A great trip with a lot of variety, and some great sites to visit. The home stay was a real highlight of the trip. Hotels were very comfortable and Shukhrat was a good leader.

As a mother who is always the main organiser of family holidays, it was heavenly to be on this trip and just have to turn up at the right place at the right time! Everything else was organised by intrepid. It allowed me to competely switch off from day to day life and tune in to the wonders of Central Asia. I highly recommend this type of travel to anyone.

Had a wonderful experience on the Intrepid Uzbekistan tour. Tulkin was a fabulous tour leader/guide. It was a fun learning experience. The food, the culture, the history and the people were wonderful. The small group (16) was the perfect size. Accomodations were very good as was the Yurt and homestay experience. An experience to remember.

Uzbekistan was not on my personal “travel list” but it is now one of my favorite places to visit! Tulkin is a fantastic tour guide/ambassador of his country and you will leave the trip educated and well fed with bread!

Great introduction to the fascinating country of Uzbekistan, and a part of the world I knew little about. After this taste, I definitely want to book other Central Asia/Silk Road trips.
