Trip Informations
Take a deep dive into the sacred heart of Australia’s Red Centre, experiencing magnificent sunrises and sunsets, fascinating landscapes and incredible culture across four action-packed days. Strengthen your connection to the history and culture of this ancient landscape with a guided First Nations experience at Simpsons Gap. Visit magnificent Kings Canyon, walk through the towering domed rock formations of Kata Tjuta, and finish by marvelling at Uluru at sunset and learning about the importance of the area to Australia’s Anangu people.
Why you’ll love this trip
Admire the ever-changing colours of Uluru, one of Australia’s most spiritually significant sites, as you view the epic sandstone monolith at both sunrise and sunset.
Learn about the importance of great Tjunba (perentie) totem that protects the Simpsons Gap from a First Nations guide during a walk through the spiritual site.
Explore Kings Canyon by foot and soak up the breath-taking scenery of soaring red cliffs, sandstone domes and tranquil gardens. Then, wind through two of Kata Tjuta’s towering domed rock formations on the Walpa Gorge Walk with your leader.
Take a walk with your leader to the Mutitjulu Waterhole to see more of the incredible landscape and learn about its importance to the Anangu people.
Deepen your connection to Country during a visit to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.
Is this trip right for you?
Your accommodation on this trip is at private semi-permanent tented campsites. However, this isn't the most basic camping experience, as you'll have stretcher beds with mats to sleep on, and pillows are provided. Tents are approximately 3x3 metres and are twin share, unless a single supplement has been purchased. Please bring your own sleeping bag. Please note that facilities are shared with other nearby campsites, including toilets and shower blocks, which are a short walk from where we camp. There are no power outlets at camp, so please bring a power bank.
Remember that between June and August, night-time temperatures can drop below zero, so you must bring a sleeping bag, suitable to the conditions. Please familiarise yourself with the weather conditions that are to be expected at the time of your trip. You can also hire a sleeping bag from us at an additional cost. This must be requested with your booking agent no later than 14 days prior to departure.
Temperatures in the Red Centre can be extreme. During the day the weather can be very hot (and the Australian sun is very strong) so please bring appropriate clothing, use sun protection and drink plenty of water. In the evenings temperatures really drop (in winter temperatures can be below zero at night!) so make sure you check the forecast and have a suitable sleeping bag and warm clothes for the climate.
This trip involves some early mornings and on some days of the trip, you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you would miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. The days can be long, but we want to fit as much of this amazing place in as we can in 4 short days!
As this is a camping trip, we rely on group participation to give everyone the best experience. You won't need to pitch your own tents as these are semi-permanent at our campsite, but you will need to help with loading and unloading our bus and with the preparation of meals and cleaning up. When everyone lends a hand, everything is much more enjoyable!
As sunrise and sunset times as well as weather conditions vary throughout the year, the order of activities may change to ensure you have the best experience possible. On occasion, the First Nations experiences may not be available should our guides have other cultural commitments, in which case we will include alternative activities.
If you’re looking for a longer, non-camping trip in the Red Centre, you might like to consider the 6-day 'Red Centre & Uluru Adventure'. Search trip code PZSR on our website. Alternatively, if it is even more comfort you are after, search for our Comfort style 'Best of Uluru & Kings Canyon' (PZKR).
It is very important that you advise us of any dietary requirements and allergies at least 2 weeks prior to departure. We need this information well ahead of time to be able organise catering for the trip. This trip’s remote location means that some food items will not be available on short notice, and once the trip has commenced changes to dietary requirements are not possible. Please also advise us of any medical conditions at the time of booking and bring along any personal medication. Please note that if you require urgent medical attention during the trip, it may take several hours or more for emergency services to attend the scene and take you to a medical facility.

Had wanted to visit Central Australia and Uluru my whole life, and my tour with Intrepid could not have exceeded my expectations more. Our guide Tom was wonderful - knowledgeable, friendly, and constantly going above and beyond for our tour group. I have come home feeling I know my own country better, and feeling incredibly grateful for the life-long memories made. Can't wait for another Intrepid adventure!

I took a 4 day trip to the Uluru area, starting from Alice Springs. The group was small and everyone were pretty fit for the hiking included on the trip. I saw a lot in just 4 days. Our guide Tom was excellent, full of energy and entusiasm. He looked after the group.

This group camping tour was the perfect way to see the red centre. Our first delight after leaving Alice Springs was meeting the local Jungler at Stanleys gap, who was just great. So many unscripted stories to tell! Camping at Kings Creek and the Kings canyon Rim walk was a hightlight, and of course Ularu and Katajutka werte magical. Intrepid took all the hassle out of drivng and going In and out of National Parks, having tents ready to go- good camaraderie around the campfire and joint meals from the get-go meant a quick geling of the group

This was our first trip with intrepid tours, as a couple over 55. We usually do road trips by ourselves, so we wanted a small group tour, and tent experience without setting up or driving. The added security of a guide in remote Kings Canyon appealed to us. Our smaller group felt like a family and our guide looked after us the whole time. It was definitely the way we wanted to see the red centre. Highly recommend Intrepid Tours.
