Is this trip right for you?
There have been recent cases where the Chinese Railway Bureau has not permitted foreign groups to travel from Beijing to Lhasa by train without any prior notice or specific reason. Please ensure you have access to your contingency fund of USD 500 in cash should your group be affected and need to fly from Beijing to Lhasa. Please see the ‘Important Notes’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
This is trip spends time at altitude; you should refer to the Medical & Health Information for this trip to understand the risks.
Overnight train accommodation on this tour is in 6-berth compartments in the ‘hard-sleeper’ class. Bedding is provided and wash basins and toilets (squat and western) are available in each carriage, but there are no shower facilities.
Though there is a long two-night train journey on this trip, it is through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.
As important cultural and historical sites, there are visits to many monasteries and temples on this itinerary. Some travellers find that they can get 'temple-d out' quickly as there's a lot of information to take in. Be sure to stop and rest when you have the chance and take up opportunities to do more varied activities where possible.
There are some nights in more basic accommodation on this trip (including some nights in simple multishare rooms) and at some of the hotels hot water may not be available. Patience and flexibility will go a long way to ensuring you have a good experience when travelling here.
As this trip spends very little time in Beijing and Kathmandu, we recommend you extend your stay in both cities if you want to experience all they have to offer. If you'd like to spend more time in either city, speak to your booking agent ahead of time to organise additional accommodation (subject to availability).
Please review the Transport section of the Essential Trip Information for details about plane travel in Nepal, associated risks and the safety measures we have in place.

The overnight sleeper train has toilets at each end of the carriage, some are sit-on, others are squat. The camp near Everest no longer has yak-hair tents, they have been replaced by warm huts. The walk from the camping area to the best view of Everest is not a very long walk, but the valley can be very windy, so bring hat and gloves (or buy them from the market in Lhasa). When we were at the Everest camp, the main restaurant wasn't open in the evening, and the other restaurant was full, but the shop is well supplied with pot noodles (and has hot water on tap), crisps, biscuits, etc. The trip is amazing, the scenary is stunning and the area is fascinating, would well recommend doing it. WeChat and AliPay really are very useful. It is possible to get by without them, but difficult.

Tibet was incredible, there was so many "wow" moments and it exceeded my expectations. The pace allowed us to acclimatise to the altitude and there were plenty of photo stops.

Intrepid trips have taken me to the amazing destinations, not just the norm for this group. We were welcomed into people's homes where we cooked, chatted, ate and drank tea. If you want to see the world for what it truly is, this is the way to go. Very conscious of the environment through the travels including being responsible for animal and human rights. They work with people throughout to assist and fund those who are disadvantaged or underprivileged. This shows heart and it is a privelege to be a part of this when i travel.

A trip of a lifetime! Enjoyed every minute. Such a huge contrast of scenery and cultures. The altitude was challenging at times, but definitely worth the discomfort to see the mighty Qomolangma (Mt Everest) up close. Kathmandu was a bit of an assault on the senses after the tranquility of Tibet!

I ve never used the cliche phrase "trip of a lifetime" before but this one definitely is a strong contender. We had a lot of fun, we saw many hard to get to places and enjoyed the company of our guides. Definitely recommend.

I had a wonderful trip visiting China,Tibet and Nepal. I learnt a lot from my visit and found it very healing and humbling in addition to being fascinated by the culture. Beautiful scenery throughout and both my guides were very helpful and informative. You will have an amazing time. Please be aware that if purchasing souvenirs such as statues you must ask for a archaeological proof certificate in addition to a receipt otherwise there may be problems at the airport.
