Trip Informations
Be surrounded by lush mountain landscapes and cruise past rugged cliffs on this 7-day voyage through the Scottish Isles. Unearth thousands of years of history as you visit UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, the impressive basalt columns at Giant’s Causeway and the wildlife hotspot of St Kilda. Mingle with locals in pubs, visit some of Scotland’s oldest distilleries and see a medieval castle of Game of Thrones fame. Do it all with a group of like-minded adventurers by your side and a knowledgeable crew leading the way.
Why you’ll love this trip
Witness the distinct volcanic rock formation at UNESCO World Heritage-listed Giant’s Causeway, where 40,000 interlocking basalt columns rise from the water on the Antrim Coast.
Stroll the colourful streets of Tobermory, the largest town on the Isle of Mull. Gaze up at rugged cliffs, explore the mountains on foot and visit the local whisky distillery – one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland!
Encounter the rich biodiversity of St Kilda – a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its 2000-year-old village ruins and for being home to the UK’s largest colony of Atlantic puffins.
Uncover the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. This UNESCO-listed group of monuments includes a Neolithic settlement and the Standing Stones of Stenness, which is thought to be the oldest stone circle in Britain.
Breathe in the crisp mountain air when you explore Invergordon, a port town in the Scottish Highlands. Visit nearby Loch Ness and learn about the legend of the infamous Loch Ness monster.
Is this trip right for you?
The Ocean Victory is an ice-strengthened ship – large, sturdy and suited to unpredictable waters. Some people may experience seasickness in occasional rough seas. We have a doctor on board should you need assistance. Over-the-counter seasickness medication is usually an easy fix.
Temperatures in Scotland can get cold, but it also can get surprisingly warm when the sun comes out. We recommend dressing in layers when you journey outside. We’ll loan you a waterproof jacket and waterproof boots that are sturdy and warm. Please see the Essential Trip Information for a packing list.
Depending on the weather, you’ll be travelling around in a Zodiac boat quite regularly to explore the area and search for wildlife. It can get cold and wet on the Zodiac, so make sure you dress appropriately and keep your camera safe and dry. A fair level of mobility is needed for wet and dry landings from the boat, as well as on steep terrain, snow and other uneven surfaces. Elevators may be closed in rough seas, requiring the use of stairs for meals, presentations and activities.
The weather plays a pivotal part in this adventure and, although there’s an itinerary in place, there are no guarantees that you’ll be able to do everything that is planned. A level of flexibility and openness to embracing the unexpected are important in expedition travel. We may also be confined to the ship during rough weather, but there are plenty of onboard resources and activities. The ship’s library and educational lectures are ideal ways to stay entertained, while the spa and gym will keep you fresh for when the weather clears.
