Trip Informations
With your family, discover the wildlife, history, people and culture that spans across East Africa’s incredible landscape. Explore Serengeti National Park, nearly 15,000 sq km of rolling savanna that shelters many animals, including miniature dik-dik antelopes, lions, cheetahs and African elephants. Take in the views from the edge of Ngorongoro Crater and listen to the sounds of the African night from your camp. Learn from the Maasai community, hear about the customs and traditions of village life and even prepare a local Swahili dish. If you’re looking for a family adventure full of friendly folk and some of the best game-viewing in Africa, then this will truly be a trip to remember!
Why you’ll love this trip
Spot roaring lions, African elephants and magnificent zebra on multiple game drives through the famous Serengeti National Park.
Camp under the stars in the heart of Serengeti National Park. Spend the night with your family by the campfire, then drift off to sleep to the sounds of the African night.
Meet some Maasai Mamas (the name for women artisans in Tanzania) and learn about their village life, including how to prepare a local Swahili dish.
Safari across the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for a chance to see the endangered black rhinoceros. Then, take in the views from the edge of this active volcano.
Create unforgettable memories with your family as you travel through East Africa, accompanied by a local crew – a leader, driver and cook.
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of the Big Five. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: tuuur.com/africa/overland
Please take into consideration if you are travelling with younger children as travel times can sometimes be long and often on bumpy roads. Some days have driving times of 6 to 7 hours.
This is a participatory camping trip and everyone will embrace the team spirit by helping with camp setup, food preparation and cleaning. You and your family will be putting up and taking down your tent as you move from place to place.
Please consider the season and research the weather conditions. Remember to come prepared with adequate clothing.

The family safari in Tanzania exceeded our expectations. Myself and my 16 year old son were the only participants for the week in a new Jeep equipped for the conditions. Our leader, driver and chef were friendly, welcoming and highly knowledgeable. The wildlife sightings in the Serengeti were amazing, as were the cultural activities such as the coffee tour and village walk. I would highly recommend the tour for a good balance of driving and activity for teenagers who need physical movement and variety. Asante Intrepid.

An incredible wildlife experience with the Big Five and countless other African animals. Camping in the Serengeti was unforgettable, with lions roaring and hyenas calling at night. The Ngorongoro Crater is absolutely spectacular. Our driver, Amos, our cook, Edu, and our tour leader, Clinton, were outstanding and made the trip even more enjoyable. Be prepared for long drives, but the experience is well worth it. The tour includes four nights of camping, with the option to upgrade two nights to a lodge. The visit to the local village was also a great introduction to Tanzanian culture.

A wonderful and adventurous trip for the whole family. Great cultural experiences and lots of wildlife sightings. The crew was warm and welcoming. Recommended for children aged 8 and up. Kids should be able to handle long drives. We truly enjoyed it!
