Is this trip right for you?
This trip covers around 2500 km (1550 mi) over fourteen days. There are some long travelling days but it’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers.
This trip includes an overnight train, which is super comfortable and features RailBeds, charging stations and USB ports. The overnight train is in RailBed class and is not accompanied by a tour leader. Should the train not operate due to track works or other factors outside of our control, it will be replaced with alternative transportation and an additional night stay in a destination enroute.
Multiple activities on this trip are subject to weather and water conditions and on occasion, may be cancelled for safety or operational reasons. In the case of cancellation, we will endeavour to find a suitable replacement activity.
This trip forms part of a longer combination tour. If you would like to continue exploring the East Coast with us, consider booking our 'East Coast Encompassed' trip (trip code PZSVC). See our website for details.

The good times keep rolling over state lines, as Queensland offers the wilderness of the Atherton Tablelands, the white sands of the Whitsundays and the golden beaches of K’gari (formerly Fraser Island). This trip has everything- adventure, culture, history and wildlife. We saw such a huge diversity of plants and animals and got to experience an array of different environments and climates between Sydney and Cairns. Despite covering a vast area, it didn't feel like we spent too much time traveling due to the frequent stops at interesting places. I would not have seen anywhere near as much as I have if I hadn't taken this tour as I would not have driven that far and simply would not have known about most of the cool spots on the way.

This trip from start to finish was very on-the-go and it provided a great overview of Australian culture while balancing quality time getting to enjoy sites and scenery! Would highly recommend this trip for anybody looking to explore Australia!

An unforgettable experience with Intrepid! The itinerary was perfectly balanced between culture, nature, and fun. Our guides, Rach and Brendan, went above and beyond with humor, kindness, and expertise. The group energy was incredible, turning long rides into adventures. Truly the perfect mix of people, places, and memories

I did the 14 day tour from Sydney to Cairns in August 2025. I highly recommend this tour. I had a wonderful time with my groups (some people end in Brisbane and new people join in Brisbane), which was the best part of this tour. Despite moving almost everyday, we covered a lot of area on the coast and were able to see some areas I'd never have visited otherwise. Highlights include snorkeling/swimming in Whitsunday Islands/Whitehaven Beach (the most fun day), visiting K'Gari, free time and tiny houses in Byron Bay, breakfast at The Farm. We didn't do the overnight train as it was undergoing maintenance, so this did mean 10 hours of extra driving and less time in Hervey Bay and Airlie Beach, but there wasn't anything we could do about it. We stopped many times to break up the driving on those days. Good leisurely paced trip, probably more like a 2/5 physical activity level (I would have liked more but not a big deal), and you get to see a lot of areas you'd otherwise miss!

An unforgettable trip! We explored breathtaking nature, discovered so much, and always had something exciting to see. Our group was fantastic, and our guides—Rachel, Brandon, and Darren—went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time ever!
