Is this trip right for you?
verified
Sumatra is less developed than other islands of the Indonesian archipelago. Due to limited tourism infrastructure, expect there to be more bumpy and windy roads, some longer drives and more basic hotels. On the plus side, you’ll feel like you’re off the beaten track!
verified
This trip involves either a partial or full camping experience, giving you access to more remote destinations at close proximity, and the joy of camping in the wilderness. This is a participatory trip – a fancy way of saying you’re not just along for the ride, but you are part of a team! Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help out with camp activities like food prep and washing up. It’s all about giving your new travel mates and group leader a hand, and everyone knows there’s nothing worse than trying to put up a tent on your own! Keep in mind this is jungle camping with twin share tents and no facilities.
verified
Some of the best scenery on Sumatra is found on hikes. So, while this trip doesn't require a high level of fitness, it’s essential to be at least moderately fit if you want to partake in all activities.

This was a fantastic trip and although there was a lot of road travel, we still spent ample time enjoying the outdoors. I loved the wildlife we saw on the jungle trek and hanging out at Lake Toba. Our guide Lili was wonderful and I had so much fun.

The trip was very nice, but also physically exhausting. You should only choose this trip if you’re fit. Because the jungle trek isn’t that easy. I enjoyed the time in the jungle but some people of the group got sick on the campsite. I really enjoyed the time on this trip. The small group was amazing. Also the food was very tasty. I would recommend this trip.

We booked the Sumatra Tour as a way to spend amazing time with our teenage kids, and it delivered! The memories we share are priceless of this incredible place, from seeing orangutans, to hiking a volcano. Would highly recommend.

Jungle trek and campsite were awesome. Path was steeper and narrower than I expected, OK for those who were used to hiking in Heathrow and humidity but challenging for some, especially with it having rained the night before so being muddy. Volcano was fantastic

Trekking with orangutans in the jungle, hiking a volcano, and relaxing by the lake - a diverse adventure in North Sumatra! A perfect mix of nature, wildlife, and culture. Our guide Dewi made everything smooth and insightful with her deep local knowledge.
