Trip Informations
Unearth a region of wild delights and rich biodiversity through the depths of Sri Lanka’s forests and national parks. With safaris on land and on foot, you’ll have the best chance of spotting some of Sri Lanka's iconic wildlife, including herds of native elephants in their natural habitat, leopards, thousands of birds, slender lorises, monkeys, crocodiles, buffalo, deer and jackals. You’ll also see the epic UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya, exploring the ruined fortress. Couple these experiences with some delicious local food and beautiful beaches and you’ll love this wildlife-focused, nature-filled itinerary in some of Asia’s best jungles and forests.
Why you’ll love this trip
Head out on multiple safaris in 4WDs through Wilpattu, Minneriya, Kumana and Yala National Parks, looking out for herds of native elephants, leopards, buffalo, deer, crocodiles, hundreds of species of birds and more.
Don infrared night goggles and witness sea turtles coming ashore at Rekawa beach to lay their eggs while hatchlings dash down to the water to start their new life.
Chill out beachside on Arugam Bay and soak up some free time to chill out, explore at your own pace and maybe go swimming.
Explore the biodiverse Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary, unique due to its three vastly different ecosystems – the coast, the mangroves and the freshwater tanks.
See the incredible site of Sigiriya – a UNESCO World Heritage site, this ruined fortress is one of Sri Lanka's most famous spots. Discover the ruins among thousands of birds, who thrive in the surrounding forests.
Is this trip right for you?
The summer months in Sri Lanka are very hot with short, sharp monsoons in the southwest of the country. Please consider your suitability to the time of year you wish to travel and be sure to use adequate sun protection and drink plenty of water.
The views from the top of Lion Rock in Sigiriya are spectacular, but getting there involves walking up uneven, narrow steps and navigating tight walkways. If you’ve got a fear of heights or conditions that affect mobility you may wish to sit this activity out.
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. That way you get the most out of your interactions with local people and environments. Any temple visit in Sri Lanka requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and trousers/skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
The wild comes alive at sunrise, so there will be some early starts for Safaris. The thrill of spotting your first elephant or leopard is well worth the early start!
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

Loved this trip! We saw so many animals and birds. Worth taking good binoculars or camera. You spend lots of time in jeeps. Too many highlights. Also great food choices for vegetarians/vegans. Local food can be very spicy! Sri Lanka is gorgeous with its big skies and lushness. Was nice to cool off in the hotel pools. Thank you to our fab leader Shanaka and the mini van assistants/drivers who kept us safe and happy.

Fantastic trip with an excellent guide and a great group of fellow travellers. Covered far more safari parks than we could have on our own. This trip does not go into the central highlands of Sri Lanka. I wish we had added on a few days to see that area too.

I've traveled extensively across all seven continents, and this tour is one of the best I've experienced. The tour leader Cham facilitated amazing wildlife sightings, including five leopards in one day, turtles that were both nesting and hatching in one night under the full moon, and over 50 elephants. We additionally learned a huge amount about the country's history, culture, religion, and ate some incredible food. If you're considering Sri Lanka as a destination (and you should be!), this tour is more than worth it.

Unforgettable experience. Our tour leader, Cham, went above and beyond to help us see everything we wanted to see - leopards, elephants, turtles, loris and many more. I learnt so much not just about nature but also culture.
