Trip Informations
Unearth a region of wild delights and rich biodiversity through the depths of Sri Lanka’s forests and national parks. With safaris on land and on foot, you’ll have the best chance of spotting some of Sri Lanka's iconic wildlife, including herds of native elephants in their natural habitat, leopards, thousands of birds, slender lorises, monkeys, crocodiles, buffalo, deer and jackals. You’ll also see the epic UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya, exploring the ruined fortress. Couple these experiences with some delicious local food and beautiful beaches and you’ll love this wildlife-focused, nature-filled itinerary in some of Asia’s best jungles and forests.
Why you’ll love this trip
Head out on multiple safaris in 4WDs through Wilpattu, Minneriya, Kumana and Yala National Parks, looking out for herds of native elephants, leopards, buffalo, deer, crocodiles, hundreds of species of birds and more.
Don infrared night goggles and witness sea turtles coming ashore at Rekawa beach to lay their eggs while hatchlings dash down to the water to start their new life.
Chill out beachside on Arugam Bay and soak up some free time to chill out, explore at your own pace and maybe go swimming.
Explore the biodiverse Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary, unique due to its three vastly different ecosystems – the coast, the mangroves and the freshwater tanks.
See the incredible site of Sigiriya – a UNESCO World Heritage site, this ruined fortress is one of Sri Lanka's most famous spots. Discover the ruins among thousands of birds, who thrive in the surrounding forests.
Is this trip right for you?
The summer months in Sri Lanka are very hot with short, sharp monsoons in the southwest of the country. Please consider your suitability to the time of year you wish to travel and be sure to use adequate sun protection and drink plenty of water.
The views from the top of Lion Rock in Sigiriya are spectacular, but getting there involves walking up uneven, narrow steps and navigating tight walkways. If you’ve got a fear of heights or conditions that affect mobility you may wish to sit this activity out.
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. That way you get the most out of your interactions with local people and environments. Any temple visit in Sri Lanka requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and trousers/skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
The wild comes alive at sunrise, so there will be some early starts for Safaris. The thrill of spotting your first elephant or leopard is well worth the early start!
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

Excellent Tour if you are interested in Sri Lankan nature and doing a full tour of the Island with some beach stops on the way. We were privileged to get to see so much wildlife. Our guide Shanaka was simply fantastic in every respect covering nature, to Sri Lankan life, history and food with ease. Driver Chaminda and Assistant Madhu were also wonderful. Beautiful country and people and would highly recommend this tour.

Sri lanka Safari tour , led by Shanaka was the best tour and the best experience we had in all our travels over the years. Shanaka is the most knowledgeable tour guide we met, well organised and very caring. We learned so much about the country, people and culture and all animals including birds. Camping was another experience we've never done before. We've seen so many elephants, leopards , dears, sloth bear, birds and so many other animals. Even though i couldn't find much of gluten free options or coffee with almond, oat or soy milk , it was a great trip overall and would definitely recommend it.

This trip captured exceptional animal experiences across the country. Our trip leader Shan was able to teach us so much about the island from its history to its nature. The intimacy of a small group tour drove comfort, humour and joy throughout all experiences.

The trip was excellent - due to the well planned itinerary, but also thanks to our guide Nila and his support team Tony and Sanjaya. The bus was clean and ready on time every single day, our water refilled. Nila was very kind, approachable informative and accommodating, he made our trip not only interesting but really fun too. His knowledge on history, nature, politics, religion and different regions of the country transpired how much he loves his own country and it made me fall in love too. I loved safari trips and now my phone gallery is full of elephants, leopards, sloth bear and crocodile photos. Whoever loves nature and animals, will love this trip. And they may be lucky to do it with Nila, Tony and Sanjaya. Thank you for my memorable experience!

This trip was an excellent option for wildlife lovers and those wanting to go beyond the usual tourist trail. Our guide, Amith, was passionate about Sri Lankan wildlife, natural environments and culture. Overall, a trip not to be missed for those wanting to see a different side of Sri Lanka.
