The cuisine of Sri Lanka includes a lot of meat and seafood. For vegetarians and vegans we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you will be able to fully participate and enjoy this trip. We also have many other trips to Sri Lanka which can accommodate a range of dietary requirements.
We visit a number of temples on this trip, which requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and pants/skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
Though its equatorial position means fairly constant year-round temperatures, the summer months in Sri Lanka are very hot with short, sharp monsoons in the south-west of the country. Be sure to use adequate sun protection and drink plenty of water.
The Rock Fortress – or Lion Rock – of Sigiriya is spectacular. However, those with a fear of (or even an aversion to) heights may wish to sit the excursion out. Scaling the rock involves walking up lots of rough, narrow steps and tight walkways.
In September and October, when Yala National Park is closed annually for infrastructure development and rejuvenation, we visit Udawalawe National Park.
Yala National Park is a beautiful, but popular tourist attraction. At times of high visitor numbers, we will change our itinerary to visit Udawalawe National Park. This is to minimise our impact on the wildlife and environment. Please refer to the Itinerary for more details.

I chose the food tour of Sri Lanka because of my interest in food and the culture. And yet this trip was so much more. Our leader, Chamodi, was the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable young woman I could imagine. She guided us through so many wonderful experiences in her country. She had an obvious love for the places, the people and the culture of Sri Lanka. I feel so lucky to have been a part of this amazing adventure.

I cannot pick my best moment of this tour - we were introduced to such a wonderful array of food in restaurants, people’s homes and even in the bus! And saw some amazing sights and enjoyed many different activities. Our leader Chamodi was superb and very knowledgeable - her love for her country shone through. I felt very safe in her hands also with driver Sanju and assistant Ro.

I have just completed the Sri Lanka Real Food Adventure. Our tour guide Bhagya was amazing. He was kind all members of our group and went out of his way to ensure our individual requests were met where possible. Bhagya had a wealth of knowledge around Sri Lankan food and culture. We were disappointed we could not secure the train tickets to Bandarawela as this meant we missed out on one of the highlights but Bhagya went out of his way to ensure we still had an incredible experience in this area. Our Driver ( Hamil) and Assistant (Harsha) kept us safe at all times. There were some accomadtion issues that I have fed back to Intrepid. Overall I can highly recommend this tour.
