Trip Informations
Join a nine-day Premium adventure where you and the kids will see the best of Sri Lanka. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temples, see elephants on a safari in Minneriya and spend two nights in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed ancient city of Sigiriya. Venture off the beaten track with a visit to the small village of Heeloya and let the whole family’s creativity run wild during a painting lesson with a local artist in Dambulla, then go on a boat ride along the Madampe River in Galle. Travel in comfort with all the logistics taken care of and a local leader on hand to recommend the best spots to eat and explore.
Why you’ll love this trip
Spot elephants from an open roof jeep on a safari in Minneriya. Plus, climb up the ancient Lion Rock in Sigiriya for panoramic views of the jungle.
Meet the locals in the off-the-beaten-track village of Heeloya. Get the whole family involved in the kitchen when you prepare lunch with the villagers, hearing their stories and learning about local village life.
Cruise down the Madampe River and soak in the beauty of the complex ecosystems surrounding you. Then, the kids can get their hands dirty by helping to plant mangroves, giving back to these highly threatened ecosystems.
Take a scenic train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella, passing through bright green landscapes of tea plantations and taking you to a viewpoint overlooking the Nine Arch Bridge.
End your adventure in the coastal city of Galle, where you and your family can spend time on the sandy beaches, cooling off and unwinding after a week of making lifelong travel memories!
Is this trip right for you?
The weather in Sri Lanka can be very hot and humid. Short, sharp monsoons may be present in the summer months in the southwest of the country.
The Lion Rock fortress in Sigiriya is spectacular. However, those with a fear of (or even an aversion to) heights may wish to sit this excursion out. Scaling the rock involves walking up lots of rough, narrow steps and tight walkways.
There are a couple of long travel days on this trip. Some journeys may take up to five or six hours, but they're a great opportunity for you and your family to get to know your fellow travellers, enjoy a good book and take in the diverse scenery.
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. When visiting local temples, all members of your family will need to have clothes that cover from the shoulders to below the knees. A light scarf can be a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
