Trip Informations
Naturally gorgeous, culturally captivating and steeped in mysticism, Sri Lanka makes for a wonderful introduction to the Indian subcontinent for both kids and adults. Embark on a 12-day family adventure and discover temples carved from cliffs, fortresses built on boulders and wildlife-rich parks. Expose your family to different ways of life while cycling through peaceful villages and touring working tea plantations. Search for the local wildlife when you go safari, looking out for wild elephants, deer and crocodiles, and chill out by the beach in Mirissa with the other families. Educational, active and leisurely paced, this trip is everything you could want in a family getaway.
Why you’ll love this trip
See the ancient rock fortress Sigiriya – from the massive stone lion paws at the entrance to the 200-metre climb to the top, this UNESCO World Heritage site will impress the whole family!
Spot elephants in their natural habitat during a jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park – this is something your kids (and you) will never forget.
Share dinner with a Sri Lankan family before sealing the friendship with an informal lesson in traditional Kandyan dance.
Explore the Dambulla cave temples, where prehistoric Sri Lankans lived thousands of years ago and ancient murals and statues depicting the Buddha are on display.
Soak up some sun during your beach break along the palm-fringed sands of Mirissa, where the kids can splash, and you can relax.
Is this trip right for you?
Though its equatorial position means constant year-round temperatures, the summer months in Sri Lanka are very hot with short, sharp monsoons in the south-west of the country. Please consider your family’s suitability to the season you wish to travel in.
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. That way you get the most out of your interactions with local people and environments. We visit several temples on this trip and all members of your family will need to have clothes that cover from wrist to below the knee to access them. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

This trip was the best trip I have ever been on. The itinerary, accommodation and activities were superb. The other guests on the trip were lovely. And of course our tour leader and bus crew were helpful and friendly. My son who is 15 had an amazing time on the elephant safari, climbing the fortress, learning about how tea is made, tasting home cooked meals, seeing turtles on the beach and playing cricket with local kids. He also loved swimming in the ocean and pools. We made memories together we will cherish forever.

Beautiful country. Lovely people. Amazing holiday! My family of 5 (3 teenagers) loved the mix of activities, active and chilled. Our tour leader, Amith, was fantastic. Highlights were: elephant safaris, delicious food, vistas, warm ocean swims and playing cricket with Amith and local kids amidst the tea fields. Priceless memories!

The trip was simply amazing. We had a wonderful tour guide who brought the country to life. The locals also made the trip unforgettable with things like a game of cricket and cooking demonstrations. Would 100% recommend to friends who are looking at holidays in that area.

Intrepid took us to unique and diverse places that we would have never been able to see without the help of Prabarth and Intrepid! The amount of hospitality and inclusiveness shown by the Intrepid team was something I have not experienced before on a holiday. The people that drove us around were also professional and very kind, the vehicles that we traveled in were always clean and at all times we were met with a smile. Overall it was a great trip and I have made some lifelong friends!

A brilliant family adventure in Sri Lanka. Our guide was exceptional—knowledgeable, warm, and brilliant with kids. Highlights included the elephant safari, a cricket match with locals, a countryside cycle ride and a walk through tea plantation, followed by a meal with a local family. Authentic, immersive, and perfectly organised throughout.
