Why you’ll love this trip
Take a guided hike through the High Atlas Mountains and spend a night with an Amazigh family’s gite.
Travel in a camel convoy and a 4WD to Erg Chigaga in the deep Sahara – the most majestic place to watch the sunset – and spend a night in an Amazigh camp under the North African stars, away from any sound or light pollution.
Veer off the beaten track to Tata and Tafraoute, deep in the Anti Atlas Mountain Range. Check out giant blue rocks, visit the traditional granary, meet the women at a local women’s coop producing Argan oil and duck in and out of souqs.
Recharge with two days in seaside Essaouira where Jimi Hendrix spent time in the 60s, and explore the whitewashed houses, lively port and tiny, picturesque alleyways.
Explore Ait Benhaddou – a UNESCO World Heritage site with a grand history and a long list of film and TV credits, on a walking tour with a local guide who knows all the local insights.
Is this trip right for you?
In 2025, Ramadan will take place from 1 March to 30 March. Travelling during this holy month can be a rewarding cultural experience, however some regular services may not be available during the daytime, such as restaurants or coffee bars, and occasionally travel can be disrupted by events. Your leader will adjust the itinerary accordingly, but please consider your travel arrangements carefully before booking travel for this period.
Some of the accommodation on this trip is more basic, like the desert camp and the homestays, but these will be great opportunities to gain a deeper insight into local life.
When travelling in Morocco, temperatures can get very hot in the summer while in the desert, so ensure you bring appropriate sun protection. At night and in the mountains, temperatures can drop to freezing, so ensure you also bring layers. Please refer to our Essential Trip Information for more details.
There are a couple of days with long driving hours, particularly getting to the Sahara and to Essaouira, but a, but you’ll make plenty of stops along the way for sightseeing, photo ops and to stretch your legs.
This trip doesn’t spend a lot of time in Marrakech, so it’s highly recommended that you spend more time in this bustling city before or after the trip. Please consult with your booking agent on booking additional accommodation.

This itinerary enabled us to really discover Morocco up close, in great detail. Wonderful visit that wasn't heavily focused on shopping, museums and churches. Homestays on this trip we're very good.

South Moroccan trip with Mohamed Inti, our guide was an immersive and truly memorable experience. We slept under the stars in our desert camp, where fed and entertained with music and song, rode camels, hiked in the high Atlas, swam in the Atlantic and much much more. Our guide made the experience exceptional

I have just completed the Southern Morocco leg of our journey with our guide Mohamed Inti, where I was shown the stunning beauty of the natural landscape, the history and culture of the different areas visited and the welcoming warmth of the Moroccan people. This trip was made so joyful by our enthusiastic and thoughtful guide Mohamed who shared his beloved Morocco, helping us make memories and engraining it into our hearts.

Mohamed Inti was by far the best tour guide I have had ever! He was amazing in ever way I feel that because of him I have a deeper understanding of Moroccan culture and that I have been truly immersed in Moroccan ways. He is a gentle kind person who is able to read the group adapt where needed and completely inclusive of everyone. Mohamed provided us with an exceptional trip experience in every way. Khalid our driver was an excellent choice, very safe driver, who provided a very comfortable drive through the winding mountains. Both he and Mohamed always ensured we were safe, even choosing carefully where to pull over when an unplanned experience presented itself like goats in the tree on the side of the road, or when a family where using a donkeys to mill their grain. I felt Mohamed went the extra distance but that it came naturally to him given his love of Morocco and his enjoyment in sharing his country and culture with us.

This Moroccan trip was really amazing from start to finish, too many highlights to mention, but the Sahara experience was something else. And our guide Mohamed Inti was the absolute best, couldn’t have done more to make sure we had the best of Morocco, and truly looked after us.

This was truly a joyful trip. It was well organised, fun and full of the most extraordinary experiences including sleeping under the stars in the Sahara desert. Our guide Mohamed Init was exceptional! Nothing was too much trouble and he took such care of us. Ensuring we saw, learnt and experienced everything we possible could in a way that was seamless and full of a positive energy. He is truly an asset to Intrepid! I would highly recommend this trip.

This was a brilliant trip where I felt we got to see the real side of an incredible country and its people. Be prepared for scenery that surprises you. The tour leader made the trip and went beyond on a number of occasions to make the trip the best it could be. El Ma H ÌĪÍ was delightful, very experienced and a joy to be with. He worked well with the group and was very respectful of the locals. He is talented in many ways - sitting in the desert , gazing at stars ,listening to music was just one memorable moment . A small easy to fix change by intrepid could have made it all the better. We had a group of 16 with a coach with 16 seats. The journeys are long and we were prepared for that however a slightly bigger coach would have made a big and real difference. Overall met and exceeded my expectations however.
