Is this trip right for you?
Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry is still in its infancy, and there are some challenges to overcome, such as limited infrastructure and developing systems in certain areas. This is especially true in the Asir region, which receives very few international travellers, so flexibility and patience are essential. Even the most experienced local leaders are still new to group travel, and sites may occasionally close without notice as restoration work continues.
Hotel standards and service levels vary across the country and may differ from what you’ve experienced elsewhere. Locals are still adjusting to international tourism, so it’s important to travel with an open mind and heart.
Saudi Arabia also has strict laws and customs that visitors should familiarise themselves with before travelling, including conservative dress codes and a complete ban on alcohol. Please refer to the Essential Trip Information for more details.
As the country is vast, expect some long travel days with simple, limited lunch stops.
Itinerary
Discover Saudi Arabia’s mountains, heritage villages and warm hospitality
Journey through Saudi Arabia’s Asir region on this seven-day adventure. At 2200 m above sea level, you’ll explore terraced farms, coffee plantations and UNESCO World Heritage–listed villages. Learn about the Flower Men of the Qahtani tribes, whose traditions date back over 2000 years, visit Abo Noghta Castles in Abha and wander through one of Asir’s oldest bazaars. Try traditional dishes like haneeth (slow-roasted lamb) and masoub (banana bread pudding), discover the stone towers at Rijal Alma'a and set off on a short hike along Tanomah’s scenic trails. Cooler and greener than the rest of the country, Asir offers a rare glimpse into Saudi Arabia’s cultural heartlands.
