Trip Informations
The wonders of Peru and Bolivia await as you walk beneath the Amazon Jungle's lush canopy, trek the llama-filled plains of the Sacred Valley and stroll the cobblestone streets of Cusco on this 15-day journey from Lima to La Paz. Search for monkeys and medicinal plants in the Amazon, tackle the ancient road to Machu Picchu, experience a homestay in a traditional community on the shore of Lake Titicaca and finish in La Paz, where Indigenous communities continue to form the city’s cultural fabric. With the option to see Machu Picchu by trek or by train, plus the expert knowledge of local leaders, this trip will no doubt leave you breathless – in more ways than one.
Why you’ll love this trip
Choose your own adventure on your way to the mother of all Inca cities – Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Test yourself on the challenging Classic Inca or Inca Quarry trails or take the train for a more leisurely experience.
Visit the evergreen Amazon. Explore rainforest trails with a local guide, look out for wildlife and medicinal plants, and stay in a tranquil jungle lodge overnight.
Sleep in a mud-brick hut on the shore of vast, ancient Lake Titicaca during a homestay in a traditional Andean community and visit the floating reed islands of Uros.
Explore hectic La Paz, where Indigenous Aymara and Quechua traditions flourish in contemporary Bolivia – a living example of the resilient traditional communities of South America.
Trek the Inca Trail, Inca Quarry Trail or take the scenic train route – either way, you'll be travelling responsibly with a company that cares about balancing profit and purpose. Tuuur is the largest B Corp certified operator on the Inca Trail and we’re committed to operating our treks for the benefit of all.
Is this trip right for you?
This is trip spends time at altitude; you should refer to the Medical & Health Information for this trip to understand the risks.
This trip involves a lot of walking to see the sites, and if you trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, there'll be strenuous hiking. The trip is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Please bring comfortable footwear suitable to hiking. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
For those who trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, you'll be camping with basic facilities. It's definitely the journey as well as the final destination (Machu Picchu) that makes this way of exploring Peru worthwhile.
Temperatures in the Amazon can fluctuate from daytime humidity to night-time chill. Insects, especially mosquitoes, are common. We recommend tropical-strength insect repellent and light cotton clothing that covers your arms and legs, with warmer layers for the evening.
This trip forms part of many longer combination trips. Some of your fellow travellers may have started earlier or be travelling further, and some will be doing different routes to Machu Picchu.
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.

Important notes
1. There are a limited number of Inca Trail permits so we recommend booking well in advance.
2. Full passport details are required at the time of booking. The passport you travel with must match the booking details provided to us. This will be used to apply for your Inca Trail permit, and if any info doesn’t match your passport, the Inca authorities will refuse your entry. Delays in providing this information or changes made after booking may incur fees and changes to your itinerary. Availability of other options cannot be guaranteed.
3. At the time of booking, please advise whether you would like to hike the classic Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or take the train. If you don’t advise us of your preference, hiking the Inca Trail will be selected for you as the default option, when Inca Trail permits are available.
4. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 2 & 3 (Amazon Jungle) and Day 12 (Homestay) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
5. This trip starts in Lima on Day 1 at 2pm.
6. The Inca Trail closes in February to allow cleaning and restoration works. If the trek portion of your trip starts in February, you will be automatically booked to hike the Quarry Trail.
7. As you can choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), you may be joined by other Tuuur and/or non-Tuuur travellers. There is also a small chance you may be the only traveller from your group on your selected option.
8. According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. For travellers who opted for the Quarry Trail and Train options we will endeavour to get everyone traveling in a group on the same circuit. Regardless of the circuit you will enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the site. Travellers completing the Inca Trail will enter Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.

The Sacred Land of the Inca’s trip was fabulous. It was a good balance of comfort and adventure. It stretched my physical and emotional abilities. The service and support of the Intrepid team was commendable. I would highly recommend this trip to the young and young at heart.

Trip code: GGSQ260409 Our recent trip to Peru was made truly exceptional thanks to our tour guide, Chris Rimachi. From the very beginning, he was incredibly diligent and always present. No matter how big or small the request, he handled everything promptly and efficiently, ensuring our experience was smooth and stress-free. What really set Christian apart was the way he treated us — not as clients, but as friends. He consistently asked for our opinions, involved us in decisions, and shared his knowledge in a way that felt engaging rather than overwhelming. At the same time, he quietly managed all the finer details behind the scenes so we could simply enjoy the journey. During the trip, one of our fellow travellers became seriously ill. Christian went above and beyond in organizing medical care, coordinating with doctors and the hospital, and keeping us informed daily about her condition. When she unfortunately had to be airlifted to Lima for further treatment, he continued to stay on top of everything, despite it going well beyond his responsibilities. He also provided excellent recommendations throughout the trip, including helping us choose quality souvenirs, which added a personal touch to the experience. In the end, Christian felt like one of the group rather than just a guide. His sense of humour, dedication, and genuine care for everyone made a lasting impression. It’s safe to say that everyone on the tour felt the same — he will be greatly missed.

My first Intrepid trip has been a great experience. The tour was organised very well with all the activities and Wilson was a very good guide throughout the experience. The Inca Trail was a highlight but the other things such as the Amazon forest, the home stay and seeing the city sights are things I'll never forget.

Excellent trip. Very accurately described in the very detailed and essential information on the Intrepid Website. Only good surprises. Our leader was excellent and the trips, transportation, and food were all up to my expectations and in most cases above my expectations. Beautiful scenery. Very friendly people and a really interesting and friendly group. The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu were all I had imagined and exceeded my expectations. I felt safe at all times without feeling managed. Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic and very well organised trip. We had a fantastic guide, (JP), who made our whole trip so smooth and easy, and it was amazing to get to know the mix of people in the group. I would highly recommend this - with highlights being the diversity of things you get up to, from hiking to jungle to history and local culture.

This trip exceeded my expectations, it is carefully designed by Intrepid and every detail has been considered. We truly switched off for two weeks and did not need to organise anything, with the Amazon Jungle and Inca Trail particularly being experiences of a lifetime. JP was also the best guide, incomparable to other tour guides we have had. He was passionate, knowledgeable and genuinely cared about the safety and experience of everyone. We feel so lucky to have had JP as our guide to show us Peru, as he made an already amazing trip even more special. Would recommend anyone I know to experience Peru with JP!
