Trip Informations
Get to know a land of natural beauty and rare wildlife on this Borneo adventure through Sabah. With its collection of unique animals, ancient traditions, tribal villages, rescued orangutans and scenic views, Sabah has something for everyone. You’ll experience it all over 11 days in Borneo – climbing Mt Kinabalu at sunrise, watching sea turtles lay their eggs with an expert local ranger by your side and sharing laughs with your local hosts in a remote village. Visit conservation sanctuaries, search for local wildlife at different times of day and night along the Kinabatangan River (including pygmy elephants if you’re lucky) and explore the wilderness of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kinabalu National Park.
Why you’ll love this trip
Climb Mt Kinabalu – the literal pinnacle of all treks in South East Asia – with local guides whose families have trekked the mountain for generations. Watch the sunrise at the peak after a morning hike and spot diverse flora and fauna along the way.
Spend time getting to know the unique wildlife of Borneo at conservation sanctuaries for orangutans and sun bears.
Join a local ranger to witness the life cycle of sea turtles, who come ashore on Turtle Island to lay their eggs on the beach. At night, you’ll watch the hatchlings make a dash down the beach on their way to their new life.
Cruise down the Kinabatangan River and search for wildlife in this rich and unique jungle ecosystem – if you’re lucky, you may see wild pygmy elephants!
Spend two nights in the Kg Lobong-Lobong village in the shadow of Mt Kinabalu – the highest mountain between the Himalayas and Papua New Guinea. Spend time with your friendly hosts, explore local farms, take part in the community activities and watch a cultural performance.

For us this trip was another consistent and exciting trip with intrepid. We have traveled extensively and have found Borneo incredibly interesting and unique. Our leader Joh was exceptional in our opinion, and made our trip even more exciting. This is a country with a huge amount to offer. With beautiful things to see and fantastic friendly people.

I really really loved the Borneo Adventure tour! The Mountain caught me off guard with how challenging it was! But it was well worth it. Our host Johmin was very warm and welcoming and I felt very safe throughout the trip! Highly recommend

What a great trip! Climbing Mt. Kinabalu was a highlight, as was visiting Turtle Island and seeing the sea turtles. It was fun to have a homestay in a village, spend time at the river lodge, and see the orangutans and pygmy elephants.

The 12-day Sabah Adventure with Intrepid was incredible. Our guide was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing their home. We had a lot of fun experiencing hidden places, amazing wildlife, and authentic local culture that we never would have found on our own. An unforgettable trip and one I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Sabah.

Fantastic trip. Perfectly planned and executed. Be warned that Mt Kinabalu is harder than Mt Fuji or Machu Picchu. Our guide Aswat is really lovely, very open and friendly, knowledgeable about the locals and destinations. Very good with handling any issues.

Overall an excellent experience, not for the faint hearted. Good value for money and the schedule as advertised.

A fantastic, well organised and varied trip, couldn't fault it. Hike was brilliant and motivating to do as part of a group. Previous experience hiking/trekking required as a low fitness level coupled with a rapid ascent to high altitude, lack of sleep and time restraints meant some in the group found this trek more challenging than they expected.

Nus was an outstanding guide on our excellent jungle adventure. Great group, great mix of activities, saw the 'Big 5'. Exceeded my expectations. Book it. You won't be disappointed.
