Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Discover the well-preserved ruins of Pompeii with a local guide and get a glimpse into what daily Roman life was like before the city’s tragic fate in 79 AD.
Hike up to the crater rim of the still active Mt Vesuvius (1281 m) – known for the eruption that covered Pompeii with ash – where you’ll have prime views over the Bay of Naples.
Spend a couple of days exploring the seaside resort town of Sorrento – famous for its old streets, fresh seafood and lemon groves – and enjoy a tasting of tangy limoncello liqueur.
Fuel your adventures with a pizza tasting in Naples – the alleged birthplace of this beloved carb – and experience the Neapolitan custom of caffe sospeso (the act of paying it forward).
Explore the Amalfi Coast on a half-day hike along the Sentiero Degli Dei (Path of the Gods), then see the cliffside town of Positano from a different angle on a scenic ferry back to Minori.
Is this trip right for you?
The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train, offering fast travel across long distances without traffic delays, delivering you directly into city centres. Trains are comfortable and equipped with toilets but can be busy.
Please note that you'll have to carry your own luggage on and off the trains, as well as up and down stairs at stations and hotels. Please ensure your luggage adheres to our weight and size guidelines outlined in the 'Packing' section of the Essential Trip Information.
Summer temperatures in many visited regions can exceed 40c, so protect yourself from the sun and stay hydrated. Keep in mind that July, August and early September constitute high season along the Southern Italian coast, impacting local infrastructure due to increased visitor numbers.
Hotel rooms in Europe may differ from American or Australian standards, often featuring two single beds that can be pushed together instead of a double and shared bathrooms rather than en-suite facilities.
For those with extra time, consider extending your trip to explore more of Italy. Explore further south into the heel of Italy with our ‘Rome to Southern Italy’ trip (trip code ZMSSC) or head down to Sicily with our ‘Rome to Sicily’ trip (trip code ZMSFC).

You don't have a lot of time in Rome at the start of the trip, so if you're keen to explore this spectacular city in depth we recommend you arrive a day or two before the start of the trip, especially if you would like to see the Vatican Museum as it is closed most Sundays. Lisa, our guide was exceptional in handling our questions and giving us relevant information about our trip. The itinerary for the trip was well scheduled and Lisa kept our group right on track. She arranged our meal reservations and was knowledgeable about the cities we visited. I will look forward to scheduling another trip in the future.

My trip to Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Minori was unforgettable. From Naples’ lively streets and world-class pizza to Sorrento’s breathtaking sunsets, every moment felt magical. The Amalfi Coast dazzled with dramatic views, and Minori offered peaceful charm and authentic hospitality. A perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and coastal beauty—truly unforgettable. A great trip!

This trip was amazing. We had 2 days in Rome prior to the tour which was excellent. Marco, our tour guide was brilliant, he was friendly, approachable and passionate about his country and giving us the best experience possible. The hotels were quirky, family run, clean and comfortable. Food excellent. All trips were very well organised and amazing. Would definitely recommend this trip.

First time in Europe from Australia. We booked through flight centre who organised our tour with Intrepid. As two women travelling solo for the first time we were quite anxious about how we would fare. From the moment we met our leader our fears were allayed. “Marco” took us under his wing and showed us unique and amazing sights and experiences, would highly recommend.
