Trip Informations
Spend six days in Australia’s iconic Outback and stand in awe at some of the country’s most incredible natural wonders. Discover the rich First Nations culture and explore the rust-coloured landscapes at dawn and dusk. Starting in either Yulara or Alice Springs, you’ll visit the iconic Uluru (which you’ll see at both sunrise and sunset from different perspectives) and Tjoritja-West MacDonnell National Park, as well as Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta. Pack your hiking shoes and your swimwear, because this trip is jam-packed with outdoor activities that will show you what living in the Outback is all about.
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Discover the ever-changing colours of Uluru – one of Australia’s most spiritually significant sites – and watch the sandstone monolith change shades at sunset, then walk around the base at sunrise.
verified
Walk through Kata Tjuta (formerly known as 'The Olgas') – a towering collection of 36 domed rock formations – with your local leader, getting all the insider history of this amazing natural landscape.
verified
Spend a full day exploring Tjoritja (the West MacDonnell Ranges), heading to Gosse Bluff (Tnorala) asteroid crater, then walking the Ghost Gum trail to soak in the views across Ormiston Gorge (Kwartatuma).
verified
Hike across the famous Kings Canyon plateau, from the sandstone domes of the 'Lost City' to the oasis of the 'Garden of Eden'. Walk the red rock cliffs and view the palm forest below.
verified
Stay at your beautifully located camp in Finke Gorge National Park in the West MacDonnell Ranges. This new campsite is private and exclusive to Intrepid, featuring glamping tents with air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms.
Is this trip right for you?

Temperatures in Australia's Red Centre can be extreme, so you will need to be well-prepared with clothing for the weather. Depending on the time of the year, daytime can be very hot (and the Australian sun is very strong year-round) so always use sun protection and drink plenty of water. In the evenings temperatures can really drop, so bring sufficient warm clothing - in winter temperatures can be below zero at night.
verified
As sunrise and sunset times as well as weather conditions vary throughout the year, the order of activities may change to ensure you have the best experience possible. On occasion, the First Nations experiences may not be available should our guides have other cultural commitments, in which case we will include alternative activities.
verified
This trip involves some early mornings and on some days of the trip, you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you would miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. The days can be long, but we want to fit as much of this amazing place in as we can in 6 short days!

If you’re looking for a shorter, camping-based trip in the Red Centre, you might like to consider the 4-day Uluru & Kings Canyon Explorer trip. Search trip code PZRC on our website. Alternatively, if it is even more comfort you are after, search for Best of Uluru & Kings Canyon (PZKR).

START & END TIME & LOCATION
verified
The trip starts on day 1 either in Alice Springs with a pick up from Stay at Alice Springs Hotel at 8:30 am or with a Welcome Meeting at 4pm in Yulara at our joining point hotel. Please advise us of your preferred start location at the time of booking. The trip finishes in Alice Springs on the last day (day 6) mid-morning. We recommend you book your departure flight from Alice Springs no earlier than 12:30pm on the last day. Accommodation is not included on this day but can be booked on request.

SINGLE SUPPLEMENT
verified
A Single Supplement can be booked if you’d prefer not to share a room and tent on this trip, subject to availability. The single supplement excludes nights 4 and 5. On those nights you will be sharing with another traveller of the same gender.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
verified
It is very important that you advise us of any dietary requirements and allergies at least 2 weeks prior to departure. We need this information well ahead of time to be able organise catering for the trip. Alice Springs' remote location means that some food items will not be available on short notice, and once the trip has commenced changes to dietary requirements are not possible.

We can highly recommend Intrepid Tours, it was our first time travelling with them. They had been recommended to us by friends who had done a Japan Intrepid trip.
Our tour guide Mary was wonderful . The trip gave us an authentic insight into the Australian outback and Aboriginal life and beliefs. We hope to book another trip in the future to another part of the world. There’s lots to choose from.

Our Intrepid trip to the Red Centre was incredible. The landscapes were unforgettable, from Uluru to Kings Canyon and the surrounding area, but what truly made it exceptional was our leader Mary. Her knowledge, warmth and organisation turned every day into something special. She created a supportive, fun group experience.

This was my first group tour and it was fantastic. The tour leaders Jessie and Vi were a good team who made us all welcome. Vi's camp cooking was excellent. Palm valley camp site was beautiful and very comfortable. I'd use intrepid again.

Intrepid’s Red Centre and Uluru Explorer tour was absolutely marvellous. Our group leader, David, loves his job and Central Australia. He made this trip special for all of us. This tour includes all the must-see highlights of Central Australia.

For me the highlight of the trip was the encounter with 3 indigenous elders, and original custodians which we had as part of the tour.
One was with Anangu elder Sarah and her grandchildren as she led us on a walk to the Mutitjulu waterhole at Uluru.
The other was with Conrad and his wife at the Finke Gorge National Park camp. We shared a meal and Conrad gave a talk about the traditional stories of his people about the area. These are experiences which I won't forget.

Loved this trip which included some beautiful walks and scenery. Seeing Uluru for a sunrise and sunset was lovely, the Kings Canyon walk is breathtaking and the campsite we stayed at near Finke River was beautiful. It was a perfectly paced trip!

I have just returned from an Outback excursion with Intrepid and had such a wonderful experience. The booking process was seamless with all appropriate information provided to make the preparation of the trip so easy. We had a wonderful tour leader, David who went over and above my expectations to ensure that our journey was fun, safe, informative and comfortable. His Indigenous knowledge was in-depth and he had a wonderful general knowledge of the areas we visited. I loved the small group tour (13) and met lovely people from many places around the world. The accomodation provided was comfortable, clean and set in very beautiful surroundings. Intrepid made sure that we were well fed with varied meals catering for different dietary needs with ease. I would highly recommend Intrepid and particularly the Red Centre and Uluru Explorer experience. I have used Intrepid also in Morocco and was highly impressed with that tour as well, so Intrepid would be my first choice when planning another tour.

This is such a fun and adventurous tour through the Northern Territory. Getting to interact with and learn from indigenous guides was a particular highlight. Our guide Dave was so knowledgeable, kind, and resourceful. Couldn’t recommend this enough!

This is my third Intrepid trip. Everything is planned for you, great app to download which is easy to use and displays daily itinerary. Guides go above and beyond. 10 out of 10. Looking forward to my next Intrepid trip.
