Why you’ll love this trip
Ditch your alarm in the spiritual capital of Varanasi – there’s only one way to wake up here and that’s with a sunrise sail along the Ganges. Maybe indulge in some yoga or meditation after and keep the good vibes going.
See the Taj Mahal – one of the famed Seven Wonders of the World. This may be one of the most recognisable buildings on Earth, but do you know its poetic history? Don’t worry, a local expert will fill you in.
Spend some time in rural Tordi, away from the tourist trail, and stay in an 18th-century palace, enjoy a homecooked dinner from your host and explore the nearby ruined temple and fortress.
Fall asleep to the calls of the jungle in Chitwan National Park, then embark on a safari in search of rhinos, deer, monkeys, tigers and a wide array of bird life.
Indulge in Delhi-cious street food and immerse yourself in the colourful chaos of India’s capital city – from chicken tikka to vegetarian curries, your local leader will know all the best lunch and dinner spots.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves travel on public transport covering large distances, meaning some long travel days. Long-distance and overnight trains can often be delayed and occasionally cancelled due to heavy fog between December and February. Some patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment here. Sit back, relax and watch the scenery go by (a book or podcast won't hurt either).
Weather in India and Nepal can be very hot in summer and surprisingly cold in winter, so please pack accordingly so you aren't caught out! Check seasonal weather guides and pick a travel time that suits your comfort level.
This trip is a great way to see a lot in a short period of time and it can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might like to check out Epic India to Nepal.
Itinerary
See the Taj Mahal, sleep near the jungle and go wildlife spotting on safari
Head from bustling Delhi to remote Tordi on this 13-day adventure through India and Nepal. Get down and dirty with the best street food, gape at one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Taj Mahal – cruise down the holy Ganges in Varanasi, hang in Buddha’s hometown (Lumbini), search for sloth bears and rhinos at Chitwan National Park and finish up in colourful Kathmandu. With incredibly delicious food (naan bread, anyone?), spiritual significance and culture that’s waiting to be explored, what’s your excuse for not taking the adventure of a lifetime?

Our trip with Jeswin was amazing, India is an often chaotic place and within the environment of the intrepid group and with Jeswin as our guide this felt infinitely easier to navigate. We saw amazing sights, ate amazing food and learned so much about these two countries and their culture and history. I would highly recommend this trip. The value for money is outstanding.

Guide was amazing. I normally prefer to visit countries by myself, but India really is a place where having a local guide is incredibly helpful. If nothing else it saves you a huge amount of research and time. Food was pretty poor, but a lot of places were chosen for food safety first which I appreciate. Also found it shockingly hard to get any good spicy food.

My trip with Intrepid was amazing, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour with them. Our time in India and Nepal would’ve looked much different if we hadn’t booked with them, and it gave us peace of mind due to their reputation among the tourism industry, and an incredible experience.

Great trip, great value. Would not feel safe doing India on my own but had a blast on this trip and am so glad I did it! Make sure you build in time for Katmandu after.

Ruchi Gandhi is mastering all the skills a tour leader needs. She is the kind of leader that will teach you about India but also enjoy the trip and meals with you like a traveler I could honestly not rate Ruchi high enough, blown away!

This is a fast paced trip with a great variety of destinations! Our tour leader, Ruchi, was the highlight - turning a potentially chaotic travel destination into a smooth, enjoyable experience. I'd recommend this trip to people looking to fit in lots of fun travel and destinations into a couple of weeks.
