Trip Informations
On this 16-day Central American adventure, you’ll explore the vast lakes, steaming volcanos and dense jungles of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, making memories with new friends. Starting in Playa del Carmen, relax on the beach in Tulum, maybe visit the Temple of Frescoes and then dance the night away. Hit island paradise in Caye Caulker, where you have a couple of days to snorkel, swim and laze on the beach. Explore the waterfalls and Maya ruins of San Ignacio at your own pace before hitting Tikal National Park. Discover Rio Dulce by boat, then head to Lake Atitlan, where you’ll visit the famous Chichi market and make the trip to San Juan La Laguna to immerse yourself in Maya village life. Then, end your adventure surrounded by the volcanoes of UNESCO World Heritage-listed Antigua.
Why you’ll love this trip
Immerse yourself in Maya village life by meeting a local midwife, visiting a medicinal garden and taking a hands-on weaving and dyeing workshop, then enjoy Guatemalan hospitality with a home-cooked lunch in San Juan La Laguna.
Head to Tikal National Park within the vast Maya Forest – the largest tropical rainforest in Mesoamerica – and explore ancient Maya ruins. You might even opt to swing through the canopy on the epic zipline experience!
Soak up extended free time on the island of Caye Caulker and UNESCO World Heritage-listed Antigua, offering the perfect opportunity for both laidback island vibes and buzzing city life. Swim with tropical fish and then let loose with some salsa lessons.
Visit the colourful Chichi markets, where you can explore local handmade wares like jade jewellery, pottery and huipils – the traditional dress worn by Maya women.
See some of the best of Central America with loads of free time where you can rent bikes and explore on two wheels, go snorkelling and kayaking, or rent a paddleboard and take in the landscape from the water.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves some long days of travel by private and local transport. While this can be tiring, it's also a fantastic way to rub shoulders with the locals. You’ll be crossing the borders between three countries on this trip and while this process is usually straightforward, you may need to be patient.
Central America can get really hot and humid. Carry plenty of water as hydration is key, especially when walking a lot.
Try and brush up on as many Spanish words as possible. Knowing some local lingo is a great way to break the ice with the locals.
This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Epic Mexico, Belize & Guatemala or Epic Mexico to Costa Rica.

I feel like we packed so much into 16 days! Our guide, Gil, was amazing and truly made the trip special. Highlights for me were Caye Caulker and the activities in San Juan La Laguna. Highly recommend the ATM caves (but bring clothes and shoes you’re happy to get wet/dirty).

A great trip if you want to see the highlights of Belize and Guatemala in a short time period. Our guide, Gil, was absolutely phenomenal - calm, organised and so much fun. It is very fast paced but allowed us to see all the attractions we wanted whilst maintaining our own free time. Thank you Gil for making this a trip of a life time!

This trip was incredible, show casing some of the best Belize and Guatemala have to offer, including a lot of Mayan history and culture. Gil, our tour guide, took the trip from great to once-in-a-lifetime.

Really great introduction to Central America! Action packed two weeks to be prepared to fit loads of places and activities in! I would recommend booking a few days extra in Antigua, especially if you’re thinking of hiking the volcano, otherwise you might feel you’ve missed out on the city. I wouldn’t book any extra time in Playa del Carmen as it felt very touristy.

This trip was very fun, with the first week being more relaxed and about beach time, and the second week being more about cultural experiences and adventurous activities. The time spent in Belize snorkeling, Antigua, and the optional overnight volcano hike were definitely highlights for me! I would definitely recommend this trip to those who like a mix between stunning beaches and learning more about local cultures.

Very well organised trip with Intrepid. Our tour guide, Andy, was fantastic. Saw and did a lot more than if I was organising the trip myself and felt so safe travelling with a group

An amazing opportunity to experience new countries! I would especially recommend this to solo travellers who worry about their safety - being with a group and having all accommodation and transport organised could not be better! Special thanks to Andrea for being an incredible guide.
