Why you’ll love this trip
Spend a night in at your rural homestay in Sambor Preikuk, right in the heart of everyday life in Cambodia – walk through the village, see locals working the rice fields and learn about the community-led efforts to preserve this area's cultural heritage.
See the sunrise over the incredible Angkor complex and take a guided tuk-tuk tour of all the best sites (including Angkor Wat and jungle-covered Ta Prohm) with a company focused on employing local women in the community.
Enjoy tonnes of free time swimming and soaking up the sun on the sands of Koh Rong Island – the perfect spot for long beach days, jungle hikes, waterfalls expeditions and a drink (or two).
Tuck into some local food sure to delight the tastebuds – including a homecooked Khmer dinner and breakfast at your homestay, local market delights and street eats sure to please.
Learn more about Cambodia's confronting but important history with included visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip includes some long travel days. Although this can be tiresome, it’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers and enjoy the picturesque scenery.
Lots of time allocated for optional activities means freedom and flexibility, but also a level of independence. Only a few meals are included, but your leader will have plenty of suggestions for great eats at any budget. This is a great way to mingle with locals and discover unexpected delights!
You'll be spending a night with a local family on this trip. While the accommodation is shared and basic, this is a great opportunity to connect with the local people (and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals!). Read more about the experience here: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/cambodia-homestay-experience https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/cambodia-homestay-experience (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/cambodia-homestay-experience)
Temperatures and humidity can be high in Cambodia, especially when walking around sights like the Angkor complex, where there may be little shade. Be prepared by taking plenty of drink breaks and wearing appropriate skin protection. Some travellers find an umbrella handy to keep the sun off (this will also come in handy if it rains!).
You will visit a number of temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover your arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
This trip is part of a longer itinerary. You might be joining travellers who have already spent some time together. If you have more time to explore, you might like to check out Epic South East Asia or Epic Vietnam to Cambodia.

Have absolutely loved my experience with intrepid!!! I did an 18-35yr version through Vietnam and Cambodia as a bit of a jumping-off point for my solo backpacking and it gave me the confidence and experience i needed to feel comfortable doing Thailand, Laos and the Phillipines as a solo female. It was so much fun and so interesting - i've fallen a bit in love with these two countries and their amazing culture and history. Our guides were fantastic - juggling being organised and professional with getting along well with a bunch of 20-30 somethings. They all knew so much about the history and context of each place we visited, and gave us a good insight into the reality of living in each country. Would 1000% recommend intrepid as your tour company, they're incredible and i will be travelling with them again :))

The Real Cambodia trip was an incredible experience. I visited some beautiful places I never knew existed. Ate incredible food and met amazing people. I learnt so much about the rich culture and dark past of the country that I would never have experienced if I was left to my own devices. 10/10 would recommend!

This trip was absolutely amazing! It is a beautiful authentic trip where you will see cities, beaches, villages, and get to learn a lot about the history of Cambodia. I cannot rate this trip and my experience highly enough, Koh Rong’s beaches are also the best I’ve ever seen! Definitely go for it if you are on the fence about this trip!!

This trip is a decent way to see parts of Cambodia with a group of young travellers. I really enjoyed Phnom Penh, Sambor Prei Kuk and Siem Reap. The only downsides are the long travel days (4/8) and lack of time in Siem Reap. Highlight was definitely Angkor Wat and our guide Vannak!

I loved the Cambodia trip, it felt very culturally involved and respectful. I learned so much about Cambodia and its people, I feel like my perspective has broadened a lot from this trip. I would recommend this trip to traveller looking for a less touristy and more off the beaten path trip for a condensed summary of Cambodia.

Highly recommend this trip. Our tour guide Saram was eager to share information about his country, kept our group on time and was just genuinely one of the kindest people I've met. A great guide really makes a difference as they can make or break your trip. All inclusions were worth visiting, and we had time to do additional activities also. I would have loved to stay in every place one day longer, Cambodia is such a beautiful country filled with rich history and kind people - it was hard to leave.

The tour of Cambodia was amazing. I felt safe and everything was well organised. I would highly recommend the Real Cambodia trip for anyone that wants to see some amazing parts of Cambodia. The optional activities were also amazing. Highly recommend the Circus in Siam Reap and the zip lining.

As a young solo female traveller, this trip made me feel safe and welcome. I genuinely could not recommend this trip more. If you're thinking about booking, do it! Learnt so much and made so many friends with people on the trip. So worth it.
