Trip Informations
Discover India at its most colourful amid the deserts, bazaars, and forts of Rajasthan. This is a land where massive hilltop fortresses loom over ramshackle cities and where markets are awhirl with locals dressed in the brightest shades of scarlet, gold, and rose. From the heady whirlwind of Delhi to a night under the stars at a desert camp, to the beauty of sunrise at the Taj Mahal – this journey through Rajasthan promises to be a true adventure.
Why you’ll love this trip
The Taj Mahal is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world, with its poetic history and beauty having the power to surprise even the most jaded travellers.
Discover the rich history and architecture of the Amber Fort, with the expertise of a local guide. The kaleidoscopic magic of the Hall of Mirrors is unforgettable
India is famous for its great sleeper trains and you'll be tucked up nicely in your own padded bunk
The Thar Desert is a vast space, but the locals treat it as their own back garden. Relax watching the sunset and sleep under the stars
A hot air balloon experience above Jaipur is extraordinary. Float high over the spectacular palaces and forts with the ultimate bird's eye view
By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Tuuur Foundation partner, Positive Change for Marine Life. Donations help them to nurture ocean health with community-led conservation initiatives that inspire coastal restoration, sustainable fishing practices and waste-management.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves some long train journeys and an overnight train, which can be tiresome. Entertaining chaiwallahs (tea vendors), food vendors, and conversations with the locals make this a rewarding experience. For your own security, take a lock for your hand luggage on the sleeper train journey.
If you decide to spend the night camping in the desert, be aware that there are no structured toilet or shower facilities. Please bring along water, face wipes, hand sanitizer, or other essentials you feel you may need.
It’s important to prepare for hot sticky temperatures during the day and cooler climates in the evening, particularly in the desert. Layers are the best way to tackle this disparity in weather.
We visit a number of temples on this trip, which requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and pants/skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
Long-distance and overnight trains can often be delayed and occasionally cancelled due to heavy fog between Dec-Feb. Please see the transport section of the essential trip information.

I had such a great time on this trip. It was so nice to have all of the logistics and lodging taken care of, and everything went very smoothly. Intrepid fit so much more into an 11-day trip than I would have been able to if I planned the trip myself, and we still had adequate downtime so it didn't feel too hurried. I was not expecting all of the excellent information that our leader provided us each day about the culture and history of the places we visited--that was a great bonus. I also appreciated that Intrepid connected us with artisans that make high-quality products and are connected to local communities. It made me feel good when I chose to spend my money at those places, and I appreciated that they made it very clear that we should not feel pressure to buy anything there. Intrepid's responsible travel ethic, now that I've seen how it's implemented (this was my first Intrepid trip), is probably the #1 factor that will keep me coming back to travel with Intrepid.

The leaders are great and logistics are well worth the money. I would avoid the shops they take to since they are much higher prices. You might want to check out some different restaurants where your money goes further.

As a person who typically prefers to plan my own trips I was apprehensive to book a group tour - and am SO GLAD that I did. Mostly because of our tour guide, Anil. His personality, temperament, knowledge, kindness, and openness added so much to this India adventure. I'd tour with Intrepid again!
