The Rock Fortress (or Lion Rock) of Sigiriya is spectacular. However, those with a fear of (or even an aversion to) heights may wish to sit the excursion out. Scaling the rock involves walking up lots of rough, narrow steps and tight walkways.

There are a couple of long travel days on this trip. Journeys may take up to five hours, but are a great opportunity to get to know locals, fellow travellers and the diverse scenery.

Tourism in Sri Lanka is booming, resulting in a huge increase in visitors to Yala National Park. Overtourism and lack of sustainable management practices are of major concern to Intrepid, so in order to reduce our impact on wildlife and the environment we are trialling visits in a less-touristed section of the park known as Block 5 or Veheragala. If we determine that Block 5 is also too crowded to visit responsibly, we will change our itinerary to visit Udawalawe National Park and Bundala National Park. Udawalawe is home to wild elephants, wild buffalo, sambar deer and leopards. Bundala is home to crocodiles and birds. This is the same itinerary we follow from September to mid-October when Yala National Park is closed annually for infrastructure development and rejuvenation.
verified
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

The tour of Sri Lanka was just wonderful. We saw so much in two weeks! Would definitely recommend if you have limited time and what to see a large part of the country. There were so many hihglights - Sigiriya hich is a wonder of the world; seeing a leopard; the Dambulla Caves; and beautiful Galle. Our guide Upul was just wonderful and made the trip!

This tour is very interesting with lots of variation from ancient ruins to jungles, wildlife and national parks. The weather and rainfall varies greatly in different parts of the island. Asanga had a wealth of knowledge and experience which he freely shared with a touch of humour.

The premium tour by intrepid was the most wonderful tour we have been on.
Visiting great cultural events, mingling with awesome local people, magnificent hotel stays, amazing animal safaris in their natural habitat, and of course, the best fresh food.
Absolutely highly recommended.

We had an excellent trip to Sri Lanka. Asanga was the best leader we’ve had. Very experienced, knew all t he local knowledge and history. Sri Lanka is such a diverse country I’d highly recommend a visit. Every region has something different to offer. We were shown how to cook the local foods, how tea is produced, how spices are produced, and so much more. The local people are very friendly and I always felt safe. The itinerary was packed full of different experiences.
