Is this trip right for you?
Many of the wonderful cities and sites of this trip are explored on foot. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes.
Summer temperatures can be very high in this region (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
The places visited on this trip often have cobblestone streets. Wheeling luggage across these surfaces can be difficult. For this reason we recommend following the guidelines in the Packing section of the Essential Trip Information.

Daniel's passion for Portugal was contagious and he proved himself to be a most organised, knowledgeable and cheerful tour leader. This was a short tour but we experienced a wonderful range of activites and learnt so much about the history, culture, cuisine, exports and natural beauty of Portugal. We will be back!

Our guide, Daniel Martins, was the heart of our trip to Portugal. His deep passion, pride and history of Portugal were evident in every stop and story, bringing the country’s culture, history and spirit to life in a truly authentic way. A memorable journey that exceeded all our expectations. We had an additional stay in Portugal and continued to enjoy Porto on some of Daniels suggestions that were listed as part of the Intrepid recommendations.

We just returned from Portugal where we toured Lisbon, Sintra, Coimbra, Douro Valley, and Porto. We enjoyed each of the stops, but the Douro, Coimbra, and Porto stand out. Our tour leader, Daniel, was phenomenal. He was interesting, patient, funny, and has a passion for his country and its history which became infectious. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

This is my second intrepid trip. Premium Portugal was led by the absolute best (Daniel) and the itinerary was a perfect introduction to the country. Fun group too! Highly recommend!

Premium Portugal is so worth booking! I was nervous with it being my first time traveling solo, but it ended up being such a great experience and everyone in the group was so kind and fun. The itinerary was great - a perfect blend of group time, solo time, and time to go off with a few new friends in the group. Absolutely loved Porto and Duoro Valley! The feature stay is unreal with the views. I loved how this premium itinerary included some great activities like the Fado show and tile painting class. If you get the pleasure of having Maria as your leader you are lucky! She is an awesome person and made the trip even more enjoyable and comfortable. Already looking into future trips through Intrepid!!

Premium Portugal provided a wonderful overview to this beautiful country. Highlights of the trip included the walking tour in Lisbon, the boat ride in the Douro Valley, and the tile-making workshop in Porto. As a solo traveler, I appreciated having the comfort of arranged transport and activities along with time to explore on my own or with new friends made through the tour group. Maria, our tour leader, was thoughtful, caring, and organized. Words of advice--be prepared for lots of rain in the springtime!

We enjoyed our trip to Portugal with Maria as our leader. She took such good care of us (especially during the power outage in Portugal) and we always felt safe and well looked after. She taught us things about the people and culture that we would never have found in a guidebook. Thanks, Maria!

This is a lovely tour. The right mix of programmed activities and down time. Lisbon, Douro Valley and Porto all worth revisiting. Maria Carveiro was our leader and she was excellent.

This trip was the perfect balance of organized group activities and time to explore on your own. We were able to see so much, and our group leader Maria was absolutely incredible! If you have a chance to go to Portugal with Maria, you are in fantastic hands :)

I have never taken a planned tour before. I am glad that my travel agent chose Intrepid. It was extremely well planned. The hotels, activities, meals were all great. But it would not have been the same without our tour leader, Maria. She was always calm (even when the electricity went out all over Portugal), organized, upbeat and enthusiastic, fun, and extremely helpful. She helped me get my phone working, to get my meds and went the extra mile trying to find my cane, going door to door st stores trying to find it. I can't really find enough good words about the tour and Maria. They were incredible.
