Visitors are not permitted to explore Machu Picchu without a Machu Picchu guide (not our trip leaders) and must follow set routes within the site. This trip includes two guided visits of Machu Picchu and each visit is approximately 1.5 - 2 hours long. Your leader will provide more information to ensure you get the most out of your visits to this incredible site.
verified
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.

The 1-day Inca Trail hike is a great option for those wanting to experience trekking in Peru, without committing to the full four days. This trek starts from the train station known as 'KM 104' and after a steep ascent it follows the last portion of the Classic Inca Trail. Trekkers enter Machu Picchu at the Sun Gate in the afternoon, where there will be some time to take a few photos before taking a short bus ride down to Aguas Calientes to spend the night and rejoin the rest of the group. The following day, trekkers will return to Machu Picchu for a guided tour, while the rest of the group has an unguided visit. This trek is subject to permit availability and must be pre-booked (at a surcharge). Please contact your booking agent if you would like to book this activity.

Peru exceeded my expecations. I knew the sites would be cool, and I knew the history and culture would be interesting. What I didn't know is that the cuisine is heavenly, and that Peruvians might be the friendliest people on the planet.

Peru exceeded my expectations, both in the varying sites of interest, spiritual experiences of Machu Picchu, the Amazon, and the extremely kind and knowledgable guide (Carlos) who attended to our every needs with patience, charm, humor and friendship.
Highly recommended. If budget-conscious, consider the 9 day Premium option that omits the Ica valley (beautiful, but missing this would not detract from the experience).

We completed the Premium Peru trip in May 2024 and have to say it was very well organised and ran smoothly throughout. Our guide was Ale who was exceptional and with us throughout the whole trip. We didn’t do the Inka trail so climbing to the top to view Machu Picchu was easy enough. The jungle was definitely an experience to remember – in a positive way.

This tour is great! You really get a good grasp on Peru as a whole, you get a small taste of everything the country has to offer.
Norma, the tour leader, was a real expert on Peru and went out of her way to provide us with the best experience possible.

This trip was a great overview of lots of aspects of Peru. Our amazing guide Desi ushered us everywhere we needed to be with efficiency and lots of fun along the way. Her passion was infectious and she did a great job of keeping us going on this busy itinerary. I learned so much about Peru and had so many "wow" moments along the way. Every day was something incredible.

The trip was very well planned by Intrepid and exceptionally executed by our leader Giuliano! He ensured that we had the best experiences, were comfortable and safe, and enjoyed every single activity/day! It’s difficult to imagine this trip without him, thankyou Giuliano and the entire Intepid team for this memorable adventure :)

This was a full on but amazing trip. A lot of travelling within a short time, but each leg of the trip was beautiful, interesting and stimulating in different ways. Travelling from the huge city of Lima, to the desert, a speed boat trip, a flight over the Nazca lines, the Amazon jungle by canoe, the altitude of Cusco, to the train to the incredible cloud forests, ruins and mountains of Machu Picchu.

I had a great time in Peru. Of course we hit the major things like Machu Picchu, but I also got a chance to see wild penguins. Great first experience with Intrepid.
