Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Experience the country’s best during a full day of wildlife activities in the Amazon, explorations of Arequipa and Colca Canyon and two guided visits to Machu Picchu, reached by 360 train offering unbeatable views of the Andes.
Taste the flavours of Peru during Exclusive Experiences, including dinner at one of Lima’s best restaurants, a snack at a cafe helping single mothers and a home-cooked pachamanca lunch in the Sacred Valley.
Take in truly stunning surroundings at your Feature Stay hotel along the Colca River, offering grounds dotted with waterfalls, organic gardens and pools, plus modern rooms, first-class service and fantastic amenities.
Get to know the real Peru as you travel with a local leader, stay in a stunning eco-lodge in the Amazon, visit a local community in the Sacred Valley and explore with specialist guides in Cusco and Machu Picchu.
Sleep surrounded by nature in the Amazon rainforest in a private thatched cabana at your magnificent lodge. Located in the heart of a 380 hectare-private ecological reserve, this unique resort has an on-site team of expert local guides.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Tuuur Foundation partner, Awamaki. Donations help them empower indigenous women artisans in Peru with skills training and job opportunities that provide financial independence.
Is this trip right for you?
Due to the high altitude of the places we visit some people can suffer altitude sickness, regardless of age, gender or fitness. It even happened to Sir Edmund Hillary! Please see the ‘Medical and Health Information’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
Visitors are not permitted to explore Machu Picchu without a Machu Picchu guide (not our trip leaders) and must follow set routes within the site. This trip includes two guided visits of Machu Picchu and each visit is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours long. Your leader will provide more information to ensure you get the most out of your visits to this incredible site.
There are a couple of long drives on this trip, in particular on Days 5 and 8. These journeys are by private vehicle and although they may be a little tiring, they're a great chance to sit back and enjoy the passing scenery and chat to your fellow travellers.
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings. It is possible for passengers who have taken the train to join passengers who have done the Inca Trail on the second visit of Machu Picchu, by repeating the guided tour. If you are interested in this option, you must tell your sales agent when you book.

This trip was fabulous due to both our amazing leader Diana but also the itinerary which covered all the Peruvian highlights. I learned SO much about Peru and cannot wait to return!!! Hopefully when we return we can be fortunate enough to have Diana as a leader.

Peru with Intrepid will remain one of our top travel experiences. Machu Pichu was on our bucket list for decades, and this trip enabled us to go up twice! So many highlights over two weeks, everything was taken care of by Intrepid and our leader Diana. We would highly recommend this trip, but be prepared for lots of steps, stairs and mountain-sides. A great adventure!

A beautifully designed trip with the opportunity to experience many facets of Peru. Holger our group leader who we know as Ollie was knowledgeable, patient, considerate and made sure we got everywhere on time. It was good fun to travel with a group of like minded travelling companions and there was so much to do that there was never a dull moment!😀

We had a wonderful, comprehensive look at Perú with a very knowledgeable and fun guide. There are a few long days in the van, which perhaps would have been more enjoyable if we took the train.
