Meet a local family for a cultural tour, get hands-on with some fishing and traditional ropemaking and retreat to your charming sea house Feature Stay in Kalvag. See the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Geirangerfjord from two different perspectives – first by cruise, then from a spectacular viewpoint at the summit of the Trollstigen mountain pass. Round out your scenic journey with a ride on the iconic Golden Train, plus a taste of local culture in Alesund and renowned cuisine in Trondheim, Norway’s food capital. This is an adventure to remember!
Why you’ll love this trip
Be immersed in Nordic fishing village life at your Feature Stay – the charming sea houses of Knutholmen. Find tranquility in your warm, comfortable room and the floating sauna overlooking the bay.
Sail to Vaeroya Island with a local villager and learn about Norwegian coastal life. Try your hand at fishing, set up crab pots and have a traditional seafood lunch.
Board the Golden Train, an iconic route passing through mountains, waterfalls and rivers. See the Kylling Bridge, Vermafossen waterfall and the Troll Wall – Europe’s tallest vertical rock face, at more than 1000 m tall.
Join a local family for a cultural tour of Kalvag. Ride a restored wooden boat through the harbour, taste some local herring and learn a traditional rope-making technique as you uncover the local fishing village history.
Cruise through UNESCO World Heritage-listed Geirangerfjord, where waterfalls rush down steep mountainside. Take in panoramic views of the fjord from Dalsnibba – Norway’s highest fjord lookout.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip includes a couple of long journeys, but the picturesque scenery will be well worth it, and you'll make stops along the way.
The areas visited on this trip can be very cold at night throughout the year, especially at the start and end of the season and during the winter months. On the other hand, the summer can have mixed weather, with some very hot days. Please familiarise yourself with what climate to expect and bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions, including base layers, a hat, gloves, scarves, coats and anything else that will help keep you comfortable in the season you’re travelling in.
