Take part in two incredible Exclusive Experiences – a home cooked dinner on a local farm and a relaxing dip in the wonderfully scenic Krauma thermal pools.
Stay in the stylish Fosshotel for your Feature Stay, offering up priceless views of the surrounding landscape, modern comforts and an excellent restaurant that uses the freshest Icelandic produce.
Travel with an experienced local leader who will explain geographic features, share stories of Iceland’s history and folklore and narrate your nightly sky watching with the science behind aurora borealis.
Get the best chance at seeing the spectacular dancing lights of the aurora borealis in the northern sky.
Is this trip right for you?
The northern lights are most visible during the colder months, when temperatures can reach -15C or below and snow is very likely. It's important to bring appropriate clothing such as a down jacket, thermals layers, gloves and suitable footwear.
Many locations on this itinerary are remote, which means a few long drives. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know your fellow travellers.
While there is a strong chance of seeing the northern lights in all their colourful glory (thanks to the high latitude, time of year and itinerary), nature makes no guarantees. On the rare occasion that your leader must alter the itinerary due to adverse weather, alternative activities will be offered.

We have been fortunate to experience outstanding tours in a number of countries, each of which we enjoyed greatly. Our recent Intrepid tour in Iceland ranks highly amongst them. The itinerary, the high standard of accommodation and range of experiences were excellent. However, the most outstanding feature was the personal touches, local insight, courteous , easygoing nature, and driving skill of our guide Margrét. She made everyone feel welcome and valued. Margrét swiftly made all group members feel comfortable and at ease. However, above all these things was Margrét’s unflappable management of the tour when there was a major and serious change in the weather. Margrét’s skill and her proper regard for safety made us feel reassured. We can’t speak any more highly of her. Thank you Intrepid and thank you Margrét.

We enjoyed our trip to Iceland from beginning to end. Iceland during winter is a unique place full of new experiences. The geology and glacial geography are amazing. We are considering a new trip there during a warmer season. Icy roads and conditions requires an experienced driver and Margret is a competent tour leader and excellent driver. The tour was a blast!

This trip was a pleasure from start to finish. We had an amazing group of people from all over the world who were kind, adventurous, respectful of others and fun to be with. Our trip leader "Siggy" was extraordinary in every way. I fell in love with Intrepid Travel on this trip and will definitely book another trip soon!

My first trip through Intrepid was to Iceland. It was an amazing experience. Iceland is a beautiful island, from the glaciers to the beaches to the waterfalls!! The people of Iceland are super friendly. As a solo traveler, Intrepid is the best way to travel internationally, they handle ALL the logistics, you don't have to worry about anything except getting yourself there, they handle the rest!

Kristján our amazing Intrepid Premium Iceland in Winter Tour leader made our Icelandic adventure a trip to remember. We couldn’t have asked for a more passionate and professional guide to share his wealth of knowledge with us. We’d highly recommended this Intrepid Small Group Tour.
