Trip Informations
Explore the beautifully rugged landscapes of Iceland’s western peninsulas with coastal cliffs, centuries-old volcanic glaciers and huge waterfalls on a nine-day Premium adventure. Take a boat cruise between icebergs at Glacier Lagoon, trek around vast waterside craters, visit local artisans in Grundarfjordur and explore small fishing villages. Sample fresh produce at your Feature Stay, take a carbon-neutral boat trip to spot whales and dip your toes in the Arctic Ocean. See the highlights of Iceland with expert local knowledge and time to explore – you’ll get a true taste of this Northern European outpost!
Why you’ll love this trip
Witness the diversity of Iceland's natural phenomena – rootless craters, glacial lakes and geothermal lagoons. Visit Gulfoss – Iceland's largest waterfall – and the hot springs of the Sky Lagoon.
Get to know Iceland’s gentle giants on board a carbon-neutral sailing boat. This Signature Experience allows you to respectfully and silently spot whales with the help of an expert guide.
Stay in the stylish Fosshotel for your Feature Stay, offering up priceless views of the surrounding landscape and an excellent on-site restaurant that uses fresh Icelandic produce.
Gain an insight into how the eruption of Eyafjallajokull volcano in 2010 has affected the lives of the residents in the Hvolsvollur Valley, then take part in their tree planting project during a Signature Experience.
From a soak in the Deildartunguhver Hot Spring to a visit to a local artist’s stone carving workshops and a tasting session of Icelandic specialties, your Signature Experiences will deepen your understanding of Icelandic culture.
Is this trip right for you?
Iceland can be very cold at any time of year, so it's important to bring appropriate clothing. On the rare occasion that your leader has to alter the itinerary due to adverse weather, alternative activities will be offered.
Many locations on this itinerary are remote, which means a few long drives of around 6 hours. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know your fellow travellers. Of course, you will stop frequently for photo opportunities.

This was an excellent trip. Kristjan did an excellent job. He was able to show us many beautiful things and discover the real love of Iceland. He also made sure we saw the Puffin birds which was so exciting! He worked so hard for us and it was really appreciated. We are pescatarians and he always made sure we had food we could eat.

A wonderful trip through the ever-changing topography of Iceland. Our guide, Kristian, was superb. In addition to the stops on the official itinerary he showed us hidden gems, and entertained us with stories of trolls and giants. His knowlege of Iceland is encyclopedic. The hotels were lovely, many with great views.

We absolutely loved our 9 day Premium Iceland trip with Intrepid. The small group size made daily organisation easy, the bus was comfortable and the accommodation was excellent. We covered a lot of Iceland and we were able to appreciate its history, and its spectacular scenery. This was especially helped by our excellent and very knowledgeable tour guide, George.
