Is this trip right for you?
The bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge is a painful but important part of Cambodian history to confront. If you would rather not visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, just let your leader know.
You’ll visit a number of temples that require a certain level of modesty. You’ll need to bring clothes that cover the shoulders and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it is hot.
In 2026, Khmer New Year (Songkran Festival) will be on the 13th to 15th April. This is a fascinating and rewarding time to see the country, however, you do need to be prepared for some businesses to be closed, tourist sites to be very busy and for transport to be packed as many Cambodians are travelling around the country. Please consider your travel arrangements carefully before booking travel for this period.

It is a wonderful tour with a great balance of iconic attractions and intimate local experiences, that gave us a deeper connection to the culture. One of my favourite off-the-beaten-track experiences was receiving a monk blessing, which felt incredibly special. What truly made the trip exceptional thought was our guide, Muny, whose personal stories, local knowledge, and genuine care elevated every moment. His thoughtful touches and warm, attentive nature made the entire experience seamless and truly unforgettable. Having an excellent local guide who knows his country and shares its culture through his or her own eyes and lived experience is where Intrepid is at its best, and this trip delivered exactly that. It made the journey feel authentic, personal, and far more meaningful than a typical tour.
