Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Stay in a cosy nature lodge, where the sound of exotic birds will start your days.
Learn from expert local guides who can share their knowledge of the region’s wildlife and plant life.
Search for rare giant river otters in quiet waterways, as well as other jungle fauna.
Visit the lodge’s medicinal garden or a local family farm to learn about traditional plant species and sustainable agricultural methods passed down through generations.
Witness brightly coloured macaws descend on a clay bank for their breakfast – a daily spectacle of nature.
Is this trip right for you?
On Short Breaks, you maintain a good level of independence and freedom, with the added bonus of having the details sorted out for you. You’ll have lots of free time and you won’t be accompanied by a Trip Leader. This means that all included activities and tours will be run by different local Tuuur partners, and these may operate independently from each other. The included activities and transfers will operate on a join-in basis, which means that you could have your Adventure all to yourself, or others may join you along the way. If you would prefer to travel in a group with a dedicated Trip Leader, just get in touch with your booking agent and they will take you through some alternatives.
Rooms at the lodges are simple but comfortable, and there are flushing toilets, showers, and most importantly: mosquito nets. The rooms are elevated with a deck and hammock and are open to the jungle. Lodge staff are primarily local, including the multilingual guides who can teach you all about the area's rich flora and fauna.
As we offer daily departures of this trip, we may need to use an alternative lodge occasionally. In this case, you’ll be advised prior to travel. Alternative lodge details can be found in the 'Accommodation' section of the Essential Trip Information.
The Amazon Jungle can be very hot and humid, so it's important to drink plenty of water and wear light cotton clothing. Make sure you also bring tropical-strength insect repellent.
This trip includes a full day's walk in the jungle. Even though the paths are well defined, this still requires a reasonable level of fitness, and sturdy walking shoes or light hiking boots are essential. The lodge will provide you with gumboots in the wet season.
Itinerary
Experience three nights in the Amazon Jungle in Peru
Did you know that you can actually stay in Peru’s Amazon Jungle? The giant jungle – which spans 8 countries and is home to more than 2 million Indigenous people – is the perfect place to explore, with a lodge to return home to every day. Walk through the rainforest, cruise along waterways, spot wildlife you’ve never seen before and learn about the healing properties of native plants. This short break is a great way to get to know the friendly people and the amazing creatures that call the Amazon home.

Important notes
1. This Short Break Adventure is a ‘join in’ group departure, which means you are not accompanied by an Tuuur group leader – our local representative fills this role – and the configuration of any fellow travelers in the group might change during the trip. This trip will run with a minimum of one person, so you may be joined by other travelers booked on the same date as you, or you may be on your own. This is a join in trip where you will be joined by other like minded travelers on transfers, at the jungle lodge and during jungle activities.
2. You must arrive to Puerto Maldonado by 1pm on day 1 of the trip. As you will be picked from the airport by a lodge representative, it is imperative that you inform us your arrival flight details into Puerto Maldonado at least 15 days prior to the start of the trip. Please note the complimentary transfer can only be used on the start day of this trip.
3. On the final day you will take a morning motorized canoe back to Puerto Maldanado port and a transfer to the airport. Please do not book any flights prior to 11:45am
4. Please provide your full name exactly as per passport at the time of booking (including any middle names listed on your passport). Fees may apply for amendments to details within 45 days of departure. Delays to provide this information may result in third party booking fees.

I absolutely loved my time in the Amazon. Learning about the culture and seeing so many different animals was the best. I got to hear the animals waking up. The food was so delicious and the workers at the lodge do a great job at accomodating us. I would recommend this trip to anyone, it was the best experience ever!

This trip was priceless, the animals I saw while there was something I will carry with me forever. The lodge was definitely an experience for me, as I am a bit of a princess when it comes to hotels, but this is all part of the experience. The food prepared was for us was AMAZING

My guide Bastian, who is local for the Nape Lodge Amazon Stay really made my trip. He’s wonderful and is a wealth of knowledge. He also has a genuine want to connect with his clients.

The Amazon jungle, wow what a experience. The lodge was lovely, you felt really emersed in the Amazon jungle. The wildlife was incredible along with the varieties of jungle plants. Our guide Bastian, was the real life jungle book boy. He knew everything about the Amazon jungle. He was so very helpful and ensured our safety at all times. This experience is a trip we will never forget!

Be aware that this tour is not operated by intrepid. It is outsourced to multiple different independent companies that operate separately from one another and from intrepid. You do not get a choice about which company you are booked with and there is a varying degree of quality/difference between each company despite always costing the same.

Decent tour . Good aspects were being immersed in nature , and food was delicious . Wish we had more information on the lodge ahead of time. Expectations certainly need to be managed in terms of wildlife spotting

Worth the trip, I saw a lot of fantastic wildlife but be aware if travelling alone, guide is very overly familiar and can be inappropriate. There are a lot of mosquitos and very hot and humid, it’s quite an intense experience.
