Is this trip right for you?

No two journeys in Africa are identical. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the detours, shortcuts and unforgettable moments along the way.

This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of Africa's iconic wildlife. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take better snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. There will be many early starts, either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days. Camping out in the amazing Okavango wilderness means digging a bush toilet and going without a shower. It's all part of the delta experience.

The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider, and all activities are subject to availability.

I booked this trip quite last minute as I had a month between jobs, but was nervous travelling by myself. I am so glad I did as it was a fantastic 9 days. The group jelled really well with plenty of laughter and good times round the campfires. Nelly, Shadow and Koki were also very sociable and made it feel like we were all one big family. I enjoyed all the food, animals, and even the long bus rides!

Loved the Okavango trip - a great first experience of joining a group tour and an overland safari. We were a great bunch of people, the Intrepid team were top class, food was delicious, and I saw so many animals! Will definitely go again

Just returned from a 10 day tour of Botswana with my son. It was such a special experience that I will remember for ever. They catered for my son’s Gluten Free dietary needs excellently which was our biggest worry beforehand. Fantastic trip with fantastic people.

The people make it happen. Whether guides, tripmates or locals, the passion is palpable, and the environment / animal experiences eminently memorable. Be prepared for a slow start but when it gets going, it's spectacular. You can never guarantee encounters but some areas teem with wildlife.

Don't expect a luxury safari for these prices. There is a lot of driving, including two long days on the road, and mostly very early daily departures. However, the camping was fine. Tents are spacious and easy to put up/take down. All of the campsites were good - a couple were terrific. I got much more of a connection for the areas we stayed at by camping vs. staying in hotels/lodges. Food was fine. Transport vehicle was not luxurious, but also acceptable. Guides were pros. And you will see all the sites the luxury travelers see at a fraction of what they are paying. And you will probably see and experience some unforgettable things. Highly recommended.

Loved this trip! Seeing elephants, lions, hippos, ostriches, giraffes, so many birds, etc up close was sacred, but the people made the trip perfect. Excellent staff! Worth every penny and moment.

Great trip. There are very early mornings and a lot of riding, but that can be expected when travelling long distances in Africa. The sights we saw and the people we shared those with were spectacular.

Loved every minute of this trip and would recommend it to anyone wanting to see Southern Africa. The bus takes away the stress of organising whisky being able to watch the world go by and relax. Food was amazing and camping comfy. Lots of early mornings and long bus rides but well worth it.
