Why you’ll love this trip
Support local conservation efforts with a visit to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary – the only place left in Botswana where both black and white rhinos reside.
Go wildlife-spotting with your small group and expert guides along the river on a sunset cruise at Chobe National Park, home to the world's highest concentration of African elephants.
Camp on a remote island in the heart of the Okavango wilderness for an experience you’ll never forget. As the sun sets and night falls, the sounds of Africa come alive!
Get your first glimpse of the thundering Victoria Falls and enjoy a full free day for optional adventures, so you can see the falls at your own pace and view the waterfalls from all angles.
Walk the Okavango Delta at sunrise, looking out for the resident hippos, crocodiles, elephants and big cats.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Tuuur Foundation partner, Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust. Donations help employ a team of Community Guardians who collaborate with locals to find sustainable solutions to human-wildlife conflict and conservation in Southern Africa.
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of Africa's iconic wildlife. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page:
There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
Camping out in the amazing Okavango wilderness means digging a bush toilet and going without a shower. It's all part of the delta experience.
This trip can be partnered with other adventures into a ‘combo’, which means that some of your fellow travellers may carry on to further destinations at the end of this tour. If you’d like to spend more time in Africa, have a look at some other itineraries this trip combines with: Explore Southern Africa (UBOQC), Johannesburg to Gorillas (UBODC), Johannesburg to Zanzibar (UBOBC), Johannesburg to Kenya (UBOAC)

2. The minimum age for this trip is 15 at the time of travel. Any travellers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian, or in lieu of a legal guardian, by an escort over the age of 18, appointed by their legal guardian. The legal guardian or their designee will be responsible for the traveller under the age of 18 day to day’s care. This was an absolutely wonderful adventure. Such a special experience to wild camp in Africa and hear the sounds of the Okavango Delta. Each day was jam-packed with activity. Everything was well-timed and organised. There was enough rest time to balance out the busyness. It was great to hear about the conservation work being done in various places - at the rhino sanctuary, in the Okavango Delta by our guides, and by the brewery working to help limit farmer/ elephant conflict. We took advantage of a few accommodation upgrades and optional activities (helicopter rides and a dawn safari drive) and loved them. Our guide, driver and chef (Johannes, Fitz, and Nolo) were all friendly and professional. We felt safe and well looked after. We'd love to visit again after the rains and see how this landscape is transformed. Thank you, Intrepid, for offering this excellent tour.

Chris, your humor kept us laughing and your expertise carried us safely through three countries and your unforgettable quotes like “No matatas” and “ya bo” will live on forever. Fitz, you fed our bellies and our souls with your incredible meals and tireless care, always going above and beyond (even in the delta!). Nati, you led us with warmth and wisdom, turning us into a family just as you promised. Together, you created an unforgettable journey, and we can’t thank you enough. This truly was an epic trip!

What an amazing trip. We saw Rhinos, Elephants, Hippos, Giraffes, Lions, and more! Camping in the Okavango Delta was a once in a lifetime experience. The salt pan was my favorite. Very hot in November!

If you go in with your eyes open, you won't regret booking this trip. The camping can be tough, but mainly if it rains. The opportunity to be in the Delta (my highlight) is absolutely worth it for the exposure to the wildlife you'll find it hard to be exposed to in such a way, anywhere else. Go on this trip!

This really was a trip of a lifetime. We went with our two teenagers (16 and 19) and had the most amazing experience, ate delicious food, met some great people and saw so much wildlife it was just mind-blowing. The tents were easy to put up, the early starts and long travel days just became completely insignificant as what we saw at the end of each day made it all worth it, and the Okavango experience we will never forgot. Johan, Nolo & Fitz were great leaders, and contributed greatly to the overall experience. If you are looking for an unforgettable experience you should book this trip, it really was an awesome adventure :)

The 10-day Okavango Experience truly was the ULTIMATE experience!! I cannot recommend this trip enough. Intrepid made it so easy to book, coordinate, ask questions, and clarify things prior. I had never done a group trip before, so this was new for me, but after how great this experience was, I would definitely do another one. I got really lucky with how great the group of people on the tour were! More than that, I was so fortunate to have Johannes (Jo), Nolo, and Fitz. They were such an essential part of the trip and I genuinely connected with each of them. Jo was the perfect guide and explained everything we needed ahead of time, was always in good spirits, and knew everyone everywhere we went – such an incredible guy! Nolo made the absolute best meals – even in the middle of the Okavango Delta we were eating better than anything I could cook. She is so lovely and funny with such great energy, I was very grateful to get to spend time with her, not just for her fantastic cooking! They warned us that no one would go hungry on the trip and they were right, we were well fed! Fitz was a super star driver! There were some long days in the bus and he did an amazing job with it all and got us where we needed to safely. Occasionally pulling over to see some of the beautiful and interesting animals on the side of the road. The landscapes, animals, and experiences we got to have were an absolute dream come true! We were lucky to be able to see all of the Big 5 in the wild which was such a special treat. I still cannot believe some of the beautiful animals we saw and in their natural habitats. The guides were always extremely knowledgeable and respectful of the animals. I feel I got to have a trip that will stick with me and that I will think back to for the rest of my life! I cannot wait to one day return!!

We took a camping trip from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls. Excellent 8 days. Good organisation, great sleeping in tents in Okavango delta, very good food and nothing to worry about as all is taken care of. Highly recommend.
