Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Learn tried and tested techniques to make the best and most authentic Catalan and Basque cuisine from local experts.
Stroll through the markets of Oviedo, Barcelona and A Coruna where stallholders will show you how to spot the most flavourful ingredients. After all, who knows where to find the freshest produce better than the locals?
Sample the plates that make Northern Spain a true foodie's delight. Whether it’s tapas and paella or regional specialty cheeses, hams and fresh seafood, your tongue and tummy will be happy you made the trip.
Discover the iconic sights of Spain as you journey through La Rambla in Barcelona, wander along the streets of Parte Vieja in San Sebastian and explore Santiago de Compostela.
Try the vast range of delicious drops that Spain is known for, like cava, vermouth, wine and cider. Learn their production methods and the traditional ways to drink them, then sit back and enjoy a glass in the sunshine.
Is this trip right for you?
The cuisine of Spain includes a lot of meat and seafood. For vegetarians and vegans we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you’ll be able to fully participate and enjoy this trip. We also have many other trips to Spain which can accommodate a range of dietary requirements.
Regional public holidays can impact the opening hours of local markets. With many included market tours on this trip, you’ll always have plenty of opportunities to soak up the local ambience. Please contact your booking agent if there is a particular market you don’t want to miss.
Summer temperatures in the areas visited can be very high (up to 40° C), which can be uncomfortable. It is essential to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
We recommend packing light and smart for this trip as you'll be required to carry your own luggage between train stations and hotels, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs, and across cobblestones. Train stations often don’t have lifts available.
Space is at a premium in Europe and your hotel is no exception. Rooms are often small, but usually the central location makes up for that. For those travelling as a duo, hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.

I can highly recommend the Food Adventure Tour in Spain. As well as delicious food, we also enjoyed the beverages, especially the Galician beer and wine. Our guide Pedro ensured that we were able to wring every last drop of fun and pleasure out of each experience, while keeping us safe and sound.

Intrepid is the perfect travel option for those wanting to explore their own stuff in addition to having a fixed itinerary as there’s always a bit of time to do your own thing or do something with other group members

Our first time on a guided trip and the experience was fantastic. Guide was fabulous. Seen sites that we wouldn’t have experienced on our own!

I had an excellent experience on the Northern Spain Real Food Tour – from visiting vibrant markets to participating in hands-on cooking classes, wine tasting and cheese making, the tour offered a perfect mix of culinary adventures. We indulged in delicious tapas and explored the rich history and culture of Spain. Our tour leader, Sergio, was excellent – his excellent communication and organisation made the trip seamless and fun, and his deep knowledge of local culture added an educational layer to the experience. If you're looking for an unforgettable way to discover Northern Spain through its food and history, this tour is highly recommended.

This trip while on the expensive side for Intrepid was worth every cent. Our tour leader Deb was outstanding, her local knowledge was excellent. She enhanced our trip with her experience of the areas we visited. Northern Spain is so lush and beautiful, I cant recommend this trip more highly and personally thank Deb for giving me a chance to fulfill a long held dream. The food in Northern Spain is different to the south of the country and I couldn't be happier to have now sampled this wonderful cuisine.

A well planned itinerary providing a variety of food experiences. Food is a very personal thing so, as you'd expect some experiences I were great and some less. Very knowledgeable tour leader.

Really fun trip with a bit of everything - food, drinks, markets, history, art, architecture, natural landscapes. If you are lucky to have an excellent guide like Piero and an interesting group like we did, you’ll really enjoy yourself.

This tour was a great introduction to Spain and its culinary traditions. Oli, our tour guide was wonderful and the hotels were all centrally located. It might take me a while to look a chorizo in the face again, but it was totally worth it.
