Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Follow the scenic Golden Circle, visiting geothermal springs, colourful geysers and the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss.
Drive along the island’s spectacular South Shore, past the Reynisdrangar Rocks and volcanic black sand beaches.
Head to Skaftafell National Park and get adventurous with a hike to Vatnajokull – Europe's largest glacier!
Try to spot the Aurora Borealis – the best lightshow on Earth! Stay up late to see the northern sky dance with green light (subject to weather conditions and activity), with a local leader by your side to help you get the best opportunities.
Wander around the arts and dining scene of Reykjavik – you'll walk around the city's old harbour and the famous Hallgrimskirkja church of Iceland's capital with your leader. Then, maybe check out the music scene or hang out at the pub.
Is this trip right for you?
The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are colourful light displays in the night skies of the northern hemisphere. Though sightings of this natural phenomenon can't be guaranteed, your chances improve in high-latitude places like Iceland. Visibility depends on weather and solar activity.
Iceland can be pricey, especially when dining out. Outside of Reykjavik, a main meal can cost around ISK 4,500. Your trip leader can offer tips on getting the best value during your stay. In remote areas, guesthouse restaurants may be the only dinner option, so consider buying food at a supermarket beforehand if you'd prefer not to eat there.
Iceland can be extremely cold at this time of year, so bring suitable clothing for harsh weather. Occasionally, the weather may cause road or site closures, meaning changes to your itinerary. Your leader will explain any adjustments and offer alternatives when possible.
This trip includes some long drives through remote areas, offering a great chance to take in the scenery and connect with your group.
Itinerary
See Iceland's astounding natural landscapes and hunt for the Northern Lights
Gurgling hot springs, cascading waterfalls, extinct (and live) volcanoes and Europe’s biggest glacier – this is Iceland! On a six-day adventure, you’ll discover the raw natural beauty of this Nordic wonderland, getting up close to epic glacial sheaths, feeling the icy spray of the Gullfoss Waterfall and becoming acquainted with the culture and cuisine of an Arctic island outpost unlike any other. Spend the days hiking, waterfall chasing and soaking in the gorgeous landscapes, and spend the nights searching for the Northern Lights.

Important notes
1. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement applies to all nights of your trip and is subject to availability. Please note that due to the small properties we use in Europe there is only a limited amount of single supplements available per trip departure. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
2. Iceland can be an expensive destination in many ways, from museum entrance fees to outdoor activities, but especially in terms of eating out. Your leader will be able to advise on how to save money. In remote areas the only option for dinner will be at the guesthouse we are staying at. Stock up on food at a supermarket prior to arrival if you would like to opt out eating at the guesthouse's restaurant. Please make sure you read the trip notes carefully in order to know what is and what isn't included in the trip price.

A well organized trip that matched the description. Smooth accommodation and transport. Despite limited warm breakfast meals options, the experience was excellent. Our tour leader Stefan was outstanding, professional, attentive and passionate about his job. I just wish we saw more nothern lights but the clear skies weren’t spoiling us. Nevertheless I highly recommend this unique Icelandic experience :)

Highly recommend the Intrepid tour of Iceland particularly if travelling in winter when the roads can be hazardous. A small friendly group led by our amazing guide Stefan. What an amazing experience!

A life changing experience diving into astonishingly beautiful Iceland. It needs to be seen to be believed. With our outstanding guide Stefan, the depth of history and story telling along the way has made Iceland go beyond anything I could have imagined.

This trip showed Iceland in winter which was truly special.. Thor our leader displayed great local knowledge and looked ahead at the weather to alter our days to ensure we did the epic volcano walk to the ice caves before the weather turned. We were lucky enough to see Diamond Beach during the day where we were stuck and that was a true highlight. Be prepared to be flexible on a trip like this, and take good gloves and hand warmers. Highly recommended.

This trip to Iceland was unlike anywhere else on this planet. From the views, culture and people we met along the way. Every aspect of the trip was amazing. Our tour guide, Gisli, was such an amazing leader and friend. He had a story for everything, whether it was a true event or a story from the Icelandic culture. A 5 star trip with 5 star people. Thank you for the amazing experience.

This is a short and sweet trip where you see so much. We were lucky enough to see the lights twice, but even if we hadn't seen them it would have been an amazing trip. Gisli was the most organised and knowledgeable guide I'll ever had on a trip like this.
