Is this trip right for you?
verified
The Northern Lights (also known as the Aurora Borealis) are a natural display of coloured lights in the night sky of the northern hemisphere. While Northern Light displays can never be guaranteed, as they are a natural phenomenon, you have a higher chance of seeing them in locations at high latitudes, such as Iceland. Please note that weather conditions and overall activity can affect visibility.
verified
Iceland can be an expensive destination in many ways, from museum entrance fees to visiting a cafe, but especially in terms of eating out. To provide you with an example, a main meal outside of Reykjavik can be around the ISK 4,500 mark. Your leader will be able to advise on how to save money. In remote areas the only option for dinner will be at the guesthouse we are staying at. Please stock up on food at a supermarket prior to arrival if you would like to opt out eating at the guesthouses' restaurants.
verified
Iceland can be extremely cold at this time of year. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions. There may be the rare occasion where your leader has to alter the itinerary and activities due to the weather which can cause roads being blocked, sites closure etc. Your leader will discuss the necessary changes and alternatives where possible.
verified
Due to the remote locations we visit, there are a few long drives on this trip. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know the other members of your group.
Itinerary
See Iceland's astounding natural landscapes and hunt for the Northern Lights
Gurgling hot springs, cascading waterfalls, extinct (and live) volcanoes and Europe’s biggest glacier – this is Iceland! On a six-day adventure, you’ll discover the raw natural beauty of this Nordic wonderland, getting up close to epic glacial sheaths, feeling the icy spray of the Gullfoss waterfall and becoming acquainted with the culture and cuisine of an Arctic island outpost unlike any other. Spend the days hiking, waterfall chasing and soaking in the gorgeous landscapes, and spend the nights searching for the Northern Lights – this is the north!

A very cold but very fun and rewarding trip!
It's important to be willing to be at least somewhat flexible with the itinerary, since unpredictable weather can make certain activities less enjoyable or even dangerous, but our trip leader took care of us and made sure we saw some beautiful spots despite the weather. We managed to hit every activity on our itinerary, but I can easily see a scenario in which one or two spots would have to have been skipped based on weather conditions. Some of my favorite places we visited weren't even on the original Intrepid itinerary!

I would 100% recommend this trip. It's packed with so many highlights. It showed me even more magnificent sight than I could have imagined. Our tour guide Gisli is such a friendly, professional and well organized guide. He is also a great storyteller with lots of knowledge about the Icelandic nature and culture.

The guide makes the trip and Larus was 5 stars the entire way. He even shifted a few things to make it more enjoyable when great weather showed up. It was pretty overcast most of the trip at night, but one night when the lights made an appearance - Larus lightly knocked on our doors in case we didn't want to miss it. Iceland is amazing. What a beautiful country and a once in a lifetime trip! You really shouldn't miss it. The people and the beauty make it unmissable.

This tour is a great, quick way to see the best of iceland. Definitely try to make multiple night plans to see the Northern Lights if that's your main goal. However, the tour is already jam-packed with wonderful waterfalls and glaciers and so much more! Definitely say yes to extra activities, the rates are great and it's a lovely surprise to hang at a lagoon at the end of a long day!

An excellent trip to Iceland. Intrepid were very helpful and well organised. Our guide - Larus - was excellent and made the trip very interesting and enjoyable. We learnt a lot from him about the fascinating scenery and about the history and culture of Iceland. Highly recommended!
