Why you’ll love this trip
Explore Barcelona, known for its fabulous food and coastline. In your free time, maybe visit Gaudi's modern basilica, La Sagrada Familia – a Gothic masterpiece that embodies the city’s lively art scene.
Visit the fortified medieval city of Pamplona. Weave through the city's winding alleyways to the Gothic Cathedral and walk down the street of the famous running of the bulls.
Indulge in local produce and wine in Logrono, set out on a pinxtos crawl and winery tour in Laguardia and enjoy tapas at every stop along the way.
Relax on the golden beaches of San Sebastian – one of Spain's most scenic coastal destinations. As the sun goes down, join the crowds as they come out to play and explore the city's exciting nightlife.
Discover Madrid’s art scene along the Art Walk. In one small stretch you can browse the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Reina Sofia and the Prado – one of the world's most celebrated galleries.
Is this trip right for you?
The majority of travel on this trip is done by trains and public buses. It's a good time to sit back, relax and let the scenery roll past your window. Please read the Itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
We recommend packing light and smart for this trip as you'll be required to carry your own luggage between train stations and hotels, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs, and across cobblestones. Train stations often don’t have lifts available.
Summer temperatures can be extreme in this region (over 40 C/104 F). It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat, and drink plenty of water. Many hotels in Europe have fans, not air conditioning. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
Space is at a premium in Europe and your hotel is no exception. Rooms are often small, but usually the central location makes up for that. For those travelling as a duo, hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.

The tour is a pleasant way to see northern Spain. You are not rushed with plenty of time to visit the attractions and see how the locals live. We were extremely well supported by our leader Tamara. Do yourself a favour !!

Great trip, highly recommended … Miguel, our fantastic tour leader, was a ‘local’ who was passionate in showing & explaining all things relating to the history, the culture, the sights, and the local way of life. Food was a daily focus for all and we certainly indulged in trying as many delicious pintxos, sangria’s, tinto de verano's and wines as we could.

Really enjoyed my time in Spain, learning about each of the 5 cities along the way. Miguel was a great tour guide, providing the historical context of each city and also giving us the logistical understanding necessary to explore on our own. And I loved his clear passion for sharing his country and home town with the group.

This was an amazing adventure. The north of Spain, while rainy at times, was lush and beautiful. The little towns we went to on this tour were a delight and the food was to die for! While it was essential for me to see Barcelona and Madrid on this first time to Spain, it was the smaller places, like Pamplona, San Sebastián and Logroño which truly shone

Northern Spain is a beautiful region rich in history which was fascinating to discover & learn about. From sampling Pinxtos & learning about the ancient Basque culture in stunning San Sebastian, wonderment at the massive wooden wine presses in Logrono, spying motifs designating the St James Camino trail & filling a box full of freshly baked Spanish biscuits from a traditional bakery on Pamploma - there were so many unexpected & memorable moments that really enriched this trip.
