Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Travel into the Thar Desert, spending a memorable evening eating Rajasthani food under the stars in a camp set among sand dunes.
Have your expectations smashed by the spectacular Taj Mahal during a guided tour that illuminates the building’s fascinating back story.
Snap incredible photos of the immense Chand Baori, a grand ninth-century stepwell in rural Abhaneri that extends over 20 metres into the earth.
Explore the centre of India’s spiritual heart – Varanasi – on a guided walking tour through the alleyways of the Old Town right to the bank of the Ganges.
India can be intimidating, but with your local leader there the whole way, you’ll be dodging cows, navigating market stalls, and eating from the best chaat stalls in Delhi in no time.
Is this trip right for you?
This is a trip made for travellers who value their independence but also want the benefit of a local leader and a group of like-minded travellers. The itinerary has a mix of included activities and free time when your leader will offer suggestions. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to partake in.
In order to see as much as possible in this vast country, this trip involves some early starts and very long bus and train journeys, including a 19-hour overnight train from Delhi to Jaisalmer and a 15-hour overnight train from Varanasi to Delhi. These trips can be tiring but offer a quintessential Indian experience.
Overnight trains feature padded berths with sheets, a pillow, and a blanket provided (although some people prefer to bring their own sleeping sheet). Please note that you may be sharing with locals of the same or opposite gender. More information can be found in the ‘Transport’ section of the Essential Trip Information or at https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/india-trains-guide . https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/india-trains-guide (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/india-trains-guide)
We've sourced our accommodation carefully and picked the best possible hotels in line with the Tuuur style of travel. Service and accommodation in India may be different from western standards.
Itinerary

India can be a daunting place at times, even for experienced travellers, but with the guidance of your local leader, you’ll be navigating the crowds, dodging the cows and eating the best chaat from a cart in no time! From the beating heart of Delhi to the holy city of Varanasi – this is north India.

I hope you have done your research and prepare for what is coming or in general someone who is cultured. I don't believe North India is for the light hearted but if you want something completely different and for your senses to be hit then this is for you. A bit fort and temple heavy but they are optional. To me, I would not travel India without a guide and having a group of wonderful people around to experience it together was even better. We had Salil as our guide and he was excellent.

I enjoyed this tour as an excellent way of seeing North India at its best. The itinerary was packed with lots of great cities visited and places of interest. Interaction with the local community was fun and enlightening, especially on the local transport. The North of India is vibrant, colourful and loud! If travelling in Jan and Feb do not underestimate how cold it can get at night. Take warm sleep wear as the hotel room can be very chilly.

I experienced wonderful "Kodak moments" every day. Beyond that I experienced the people of North India have a great sense of humour, thay love the game of bartering, they are so kind, to other people and othercreatures. A bucket list tick for sure

What an epic experience! Northern India Revealed was all it promised to be and more! Majestic forts , magical deserts , spiritual temples and rivers , history and culture. You will not believe the wonders of Rajasthan and it's people and the sites of Delhi Agra and Varanasi. This tour allows you to get the best experience of this part of India, with the advantage of a well planned itinerary and an experienced and knowledgeable tour guide ( Bhanu). Northern India was an absolute gem to discover, we had the most amazing experience touring parts of this beautiful country, I’m sad it’s over. If you get Rashmi as your tour leader I’m already jealous, she is an amazing human with so much knowledge and passion to share! We feel very lucky to have been shown this beautiful country by someone who loves the place and wants to make others love it as well!
