Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Find out what it means to be female in Morocco as you travel with an all-women group, a local female leader, the M’Goun Valley’s first local female guide and meet plenty of inspiring women along the way.
Learn from the best as you take part in a traditional couscous cooking lesson, find out how to make fresh khobz (flatbread), and be welcomed into the home of a local woman in Marrakech for a meal you won’t forget.
Spend four days hiking between remote villages in the M’Goun Valley, accompanied by a local female guide who will bring the region to life with her incomparable knowledge and experience.
Dine on delicious local cuisine as you enjoy a private performance by The Houariyates – a female music band that will fill the room and your heart with joyful songs praising and celebrating women.
Visit the historic town of Ait Benhaddou and its iconic mudbrick ksar. You’ll soon see why this eye-catching site has been used as a backdrop in many famous films.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Tuuur Foundation partner, Amal. Donations support them to provide women in Morocco with culinary skills training to help improve livelihoods. Tuuur will double your impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Tuuur Foundation.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves walking from 4 to 7 hours on Day 3 to 6. The walks will lead you through picturesque valleys and rivers. The terrain may be unstable, rocky and hilly. Consider appropriate footwear and necessary clothing, including a warm jacket and raincoat.
You’ll need to bring a 3/4 season sleeping bag on this trip. Even though you’ll be staying in guesthouses and gites, they may not be heated, so a warm sleeping bag is essential.
The village accommodation on this trip is simple and you’ll be sharing rooms with other female travellers. On Day 5 there are two big rooms for the group so you may share your room with up to five other travellers. Bathroom facilities are shared, but you can expect a hot shower each evening.
Itinerary
Leave the beaten path behind on an unforgettable women’s-only expedition
Join a women’s-only adventure for an unforgettable expedition to the remote and less-travelled reaches of Morocco. Begin in Marrakech, then set off to experience the side of Morocco they don’t tell you about in the guidebooks. Break bread with Amazigh families in remote homes, see how an artist co-op is empowering female rug-weavers in small villages, take in the beauty of the far-flung M’goun Valley over four days of hiking with the region’s first local female guide, and enjoy the singing and dancing of Moroccan women in cultural ceremonies in rural communities.

A fabulous trip! A different way to see Morocco with beautiful scenery, delicious food and a lovely group. Naima was a fabulous guide who looked after us and really brought the fun. If the itinerary appeals, book this trip!!

Ensure to use good walking shoes and bring water shoes and pants that can be folded to knees. Waking sticks are great assets. Big youth/school age children, do get to know and embrace them, they are curious lots. Gift of some sorts (pen? Bonbon, cookies? With little plastic contents possible pls) are great and an ice breaker. Rose, argan, carpets shopping opportunity from women cooperative otw back. A niche tour, we bonded well. Certain level of fitness a must.

The trip was an experience you could not replicate, it was made special and unique every day by our leader Naima. The food was incredible, the walks stunning, the activities all gave us an insight into the culture of the Berber people. The only way to have this experience is to do this unique trip.

I can't say enough good things about this off-the-beaten-path, once-in-a-lifetime trip. Our guide, Naima, was simply wonderful. She's an excellent communicator, great company, and helpful at every step along the way. Our four days of trekking offered a fascinating glimpse into the Berber way of life which is remarkably unchanged in 2025. Be warned that accommodation in the three guest houses is very basic. I'm 67 and cheerfully coped! We had a great group of eight women ranging in age from about 30 to me, the eldest. I was a little worried about keeping up, but it wasn't a problem. If you have a decent level of fitness, you'll be fine. All in all, an exhilarating experience in the spectacularly scenic High Atlas Mountains.

The trip was excellent and gave a brief yet insightful glimpse of the Amazigh culture. Plus, it was a good opportunity to hike a small part of rural southern Morocco (and disconnect from devices for a few days).

This trip has been a wonderful experience and i can totally recommend it to anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the fascinating Amazigh people. A special thanks to our wonderful tour leader Hanane, which is such a kind and funny person, she really is as great as everyone is saying! Our porters/cooks Malika and Mohamed has been excellent and the times we danced, laughed and talked - i will cherish them forever. This was truly a magnificent experience!

Our trip was amazing!!! From the people , to the food , to the activities. I feel like we had such an authentic experience vs what tourists usually get to see. I felt welcomed by the locals and had such an amazing time with our group :-)

I highly recommend this tour for those wanting a deeper and authentic experience that goes beyond the photo op. Connecting with the local Moroccans both in the communities and in our team, especially the women, learning about their lives and cultures was very impactful. This tour is very woman-centric both with the women only group and the local activities you do, which was why I chose it. Our tour leader Fatimazahara was amazing, generous with her local knowledge and super warm and approachable - cannot recommend her enough! She prioritised our safety and no issue was too small to bring to her. Beyond the beautiful landscapes she made the experience deeper with her insights of customs and ways of life, the locals were excited to share their culture with us because Fatimazahara made everyone feel respected and welcome. You're out in remote villages so be prepared to be out of reception, and sleeping on matts in shared rooms - for those looking for more of an adventure this is perfect! We went in late September/ early October and it was quite warm during the day, only cooling down in the middle of the night. You don't have to be super fit for the walking but its still a good workout.

My first solo expedition. My first Intrepid trip. My first week-long trip with strangers. Every day was packed with new experiences, new knowledge and heaps of fun. Our Intrepid team was fantastic, so generous with their knowledge, experience and time, and the itinerary was varied and interesting. Highly recommended!
