Trip Informations
Discover a land where bustling medinas, rugged mountains and windswept coastlines come together in one unforgettable family adventure. On this seven-day round-trip from Marrakech, learn to surf in the charming coastal city of Essaouira, ride camels across the Agafay Desert and spend a memorable night camping under a sky full of stars. Experience a slice of local life during a homestay in the Atlas Mountains and savour the delightful flavours of Moroccan cuisine with a home-cooked dinner. Blending hands-on experiences, meaningful cultural connections and plenty of active fun, this family-friendly journey offers the perfect introduction to Morocco for travellers of all ages.
Why you’ll love this trip
Venture into the Atlas Mountains, full of lush valleys and towering peaks. Head to the village of Aroumd on foot (or on the back of a mule!) and get a taste of the local culture.
Stay in a family-run gite (guesthouse) for an insight into traditional Moroccan life. Spend time with a local family and share a delicious home-cooked dinner together.
Learn to surf in Essaouira – with gentle waters and a relaxed atmosphere, this is an excellent spot for surfers of all ages and experience levels.
Spend a night under the stars at your Bedouin camp in the Agafay Desert. The kids will love the camel ride at sunset, with great views of the Atlas Mountains.
Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and flavours of Marrakech as you explore the busy Djemaa El Fna and weave through the city's bustling souqs.
Is this trip right for you?
The road to the High Atlas Mountains is very winding. Please take this into consideration if you or your child suffer from motion sickness. The walk to the homestay in the High Atlas Mountains can be hard in some places. Please talk to your leader if you would like to opt to travel on the back of a mule for this portion of the trip. One night is spent in a traditional family-run mountain gite. Facilities are more basic than a hotel and room configurations may differ from those used elsewhere on the trip.
Morocco is a large country and several days involve journeys of up to 4.5 hours by private vehicle. Regular comfort and sightseeing stops are made along the way.
The camel ride in the Agafay Desert is a highlight of the trip for many travellers. But if you'd rather not ride a camel, you can always walk alongside the camels instead or choose to opt out completely.
This trip includes a beginner-friendly surfing lesson. Participants should be comfortable in the water and following instructor safety briefings.
Summer temperatures in Morocco can get very hot. If you're travelling in the warmer months, be sure to wear layers, use sun protection and drink plenty of water. Nights can get quite cold, so warm clothes are essential.
Ramadan is an exciting time to travel through Morocco, but there are also a few things to bear in mind. Meal times will be a lot later than you may be used to, particularly for dinner. You'll find that restaurants will open for dinner at 7 to 7.30 pm, which will mean your family may not be eating dinner until 8 to 8.30 pm. Likewise, breakfast may not start until 7 am. As you travel through the countryside, there will be limited small roadside cafes to stop at. Your leader will pre-plan where to stop to ensure families have access to snacks and bathroom stops along the way. Morocco is a Muslim country, so alcohol is not readily available, particularly during Ramadan.
