Trip Informations
Feel the mystical vibes of the weird and wonderful Dia de los Muertos, or the annual Day of the Dead festival, on a five-day cultural exploration of Mexico City and surrounds. Visit the museums of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and learn all about their fascination with death, wander about the Tlahuac community, participate in a traditional Day of the Dead ceremony and see elaborate altars dedicated to the deceased. This festival is all about rituals, so dive straight in to the spooky and sacrilegious ceremonies that has made this tradition so infamous. Oh, and Mexico City’s tacos will make you feel you’ve died and gone to heaven, too.

This itinerary is designed to provide the best possible experience of the annual Day of the Dead festivities around Mexico City. As such, there is very limited free time to explore many of the area’s most popular tourist attractions, including the Museum of Anthropology, Teotihuacan and Chapultepec Park. We recommend you stay a few extra days before or after the tour to make the most of this vibrant metropolis. If you would like to spend more time in Mexico City, we’ll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability).

We will be operating multiple departures of this tour so it possible that more than one group will be at some locations or activities at the same time. However, each group will have a maximum of 12 passengers with its own dedicated tour leader.

I am so happy I got to do this trip. I learned so much about Mexican culture and history. My favourite part of the tour was Tlahuac Day of the Dead altar creation and Cemetery visit. Visiting Tlahuac was such a heart warming experience in learning how to honour our loved ones that have passed away.

The visit to San Pedro Tiahuac was a highlight and all of the included activities there. Sabina was a wonderful tour leader, gentle, caring and fun. I would recommend booking the Frida Kahlo museum yourself, just in case it clashes with the Grand Parade as it did in our case. It’s worth visiting twice. Mexico City is a vibrant and fun city and being there for The day of the dead celebrations was so much fun.

We did the Intrepid tour for Dia de Los Muertos
We started in Mexico City, visited Tláhuac and Puebla
Congratulations to Intrepid for creating this excellent immersing tour
We loved Tláhuac being welcomed by locals, eat their food, drink their mezcal, visit the cemetery
Our exceptional guide Karla is enthusiastic and fun and everyone in the village recognized her
Visiting Puebla was truly exceptional too - a beautiful city; and again we were lucky to see a parade and just everything for these festivities
Our hotel was changed from the original one and we were upset because we were moved from Zocalo to a further location but it turned out to be better because the neighborhood is trendy, safe, quiet lots of good restaurants
The only thing that the hotel could improve is the service at front desk and and quality of breakfast
Our van and driver excellent too.
Once again I want to mention out tour director/ guide Karla for an above and beyond service
We will be back
