Why you’ll love this trip
Spend three days exploring the island paradise of Caye Caulker – munch on barbecued lobster, snorkel around a coral reef, nap under palm trees, go kayaking or just kick back with a couple of worry-free beach days.
See some of the most significant remnants of the ancient Maya civilisation – plus an array of local wildlife, including coatis and howler monkeys – during a guided tour of Tikal National Park.
Get to know contemporary Maya life during a homestay in San Juan La Laguna – a lakeside village where you can share meals and conversation with a local family and see how they harvest their local medicinal plants.
Wander between stalls of rainbow handicrafts, fruits and flowers in the popular and colourful Chichicastenango Market.
Cruise up the Rio Dulce to your waterfront jungle lodge, where you’ll head out on a birdwatching walk and relax while the sounds of nature fill the air.
Is this trip right for you?
Public transport is better for the environment, and you’ll get an authentic look at daily life, but keep in mind that local transport between specific locations on this trip can be pretty basic. Crossing the borders between various countries is usually straightforward, but you may need patience. Books, podcasts and car games will be your best friend.
The tropical climate of Central America means conditions can be really hot and humid. It makes the beers even more refreshing but consider what time of the year you wish to travel in if you’re easily affected by the weather.
The homestay is a wonderful opportunity to witness everyday local life. In San Juan La Laguna, you will stay with a local family in small groups. Conditions are simple but comfortable. A hearty homecooked dinner will be served during your stay, which can be a lot more basic than what you're used to.

The trip is fantastic, a real highlight is Caye Caulker. You see so much wildlife - manatees, rays, sharks, monkeys, a range of birds. Our guide, Salvador, was also fantastic, so knowledgeable and personable.

What a trip!! From beaches and islands to lakes and the highlands. This trip had so many great activities. The ATM caves are an absolute must! Our guide was as vibrant & welcoming as the countries we visited. Get yourself some water shoes & book this trip!

Awesome trip! Make sure to be weary of the weather dependent on the time of year. Antigua was quiet cold. ATM caves is a must!

A brilliant trip with an eclectic itinerary. Snorkelling with the sharks and ATM caving were highlights, along with our wonderful group and leader Sofie. I definitely feel inspired to return to Central America.

Was an excellent trip, good mix of planned activities and optional extras. On the latter, as other reviews, snorkeling boat ride and ATM caves a stand out. Coffee tour in Antigua was nice, with a small family cooperative plantation. Playa was as expected! But got in early for a few days to decompress, and adding on a Hilton rooftop pool package was a break from the rest of the local bars! Caye Caulka a real stand out, great place to chill. Guatemala was very nice and more very than expected. In the end there were no public bus transfers either (an optional trip switched out the chicken bus for a private minibus), as this for me is not so clear in the trip description! Good amount of free time too versus other trips I’ve been on. A recommendation from me for this trip!

It was an excellent trip, with a varied itinerary seamlessly blending chilled days with active ones. Our leader, Sabina, was fabulous, and nothing was too much trouble for her. She also made the border crossings as easy as they could have been. The transport was better than I expected in Central America. I highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in Mayan culture but would also like some downtime.

A brilliant tour under the guidance of Sabina. She was attentive, well organised and her enthusiasm really helped the group gel. The itinerary was great, extremely varied and a good beginner’s insight into Central America.
